Guest ReginaldBlinker Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 (edited) This link shows the team when we beat the pigs away last year. http://www.swfc.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10304~43508,00.html This link shows the team that murdered Scunny earlier this season. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/8202352.stm Those teams aren't a great deal different from the current team are they? So what the hell has happened? They don't suddenly become bad players do they? My theory is a lack of confidence - we seem to have forgotten how to attack, make nervous decisions and take 3 touches when 1 would have sufficed before. Do we fare better when we score early too? If so, that suggests a confidence problem. I'd be tempted to put Gray back in midfield, maybe at the expense of Potter for a bit of mental strength. Look at Purse, he never lost his resolve through his bad patch and now is head & shoulders above the rest of the team in terms of belief. If I was picking a side on the basis of their mental strength I'd include JJ, Purse, Gray, Clarke (he's taken some stick & pulled through), Jeffers (doesn't seem to get ruffled). Guest Housey Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 It's the way they are made to play and the methods that are used that is our downfall, add a very negative manager and it's relegation time. 3
Mr Farrell Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 It's the way they are made to play and the methods that are used that is our downfall, add a very negative manager and it's relegation time. Sad but true. 2
Guest ReginaldBlinker Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 What happened under Laws then? We went from doing ok to the worst run in ages almost overnight? Did we just get found out for being too open?
ReadingOwl Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 What happened under Laws then? We went from doing ok to the worst run in ages almost overnight? Did we just get found out for being too open? Laws had passed his sell by date. We brought a new manager in to extend the sell by date, but the food was already off. I suggest Marco Pierre White for the next manager. Makes good pies I'm told.
Guest wadsleybridgeowl Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 With the exceptions of a couple, the rest don`t give a f**k
Guest Sheff Owl Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Laws should have gone far earlier no doubt about that if not before than certainly after the 4-1 Watford match.
Guest Distraught! Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 What happened under Laws then? We went from doing ok to the worst run in ages almost overnight? Did we just get found out for being too open? Best refer to D.J.Mortimer's PhD. thesis for the answer to that question.
marshy Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 What happened under Laws then? We went from doing ok to the worst run in ages almost overnight? Did we just get found out for being too open? We simply punched well above our weight IMHO, very much akin to what Hull did in their 1st season in the Prem & look at them now.
scram Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 The same players who are described by some as the worst we've ever had (laughably) have kept the club up in this division for 2 seasons So it will not be a "miracle" if that feat is repeated - not by any means I do however think that allowing so many players to be out of contract at the same time is a bad thing - and i think when Mr Strafford and co get round the table to debrief this season it will flag up large that it's not a good place to be. Also keep dirty washing in-house - re the Wood and FJ9 sagas If Mr Strafford did sense a sea change in attitude toward the manager then he had 2 options - either sack the manager or replace a fiar proportion of the players - as ever one of those deeds is infintely easier than the other - but should have been done sooner. Mr Strafford himself has not helped at times - with some of his FB status comments and also the public flogging of RW and FJ9 The appointment of Mr Irvine was opportunistic imo - maybe more thought needs to be put into such decisions and less nonsensical soundbites - but looking at the track record of Mr Irvine does anybody really think this is a 21st century manager with a clutch of new ideas? Results at his previous club - great, good or ordinary? It is a learning curve for the guy - fair enough we all make mistakes 1
Arthur Bach Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 The club got too nice from the top to the bottom.
Guest totemowl Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 The club got too nice from the top to the bottom. Last year we had our backs to the wall. Expectations were low from the outset. Everyone knew we'd have to scrap for points. This year expectations were much higher. Team organisation, etc was more outgoing - and BL got it wrong. Striking limitations were more apparent. Failure was more painful and more difficult to deal with. Led to greater disappointment, greater blame and greater loss of confidence amongst some players.
gurujuan Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 If we are relegated and no investment is secured, then in my opinion our chairman's position is untenable.
luketheowl Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Could anyone who has time please complete my survey. It'd really help me with course work and I'd really appreciate it if you'd complete it. Thanks, LukeTheOwl. Survey. 1
scram Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 If we are relegated and no investment is secured, then in my opinion our chairman's position is untenable. His position wouldn't be untenable imo - but it would be under scrutiny I think it'd be a wise move for Wednesday fans to completely forget investment - we're not an attractive proposition in a business notorious for draining finance out of even the deepest pockets I think one thing has become clearer - and that is that for the immediacy then what happens on the pitch needs to be taken care of before anything else It's popintless splashing the cash on prozone, sports science, analsysts and guys with databases - because fans don't give a poo poo Get a couple of exciting players on the pitch and watch those crowds grow. 1
