BOOFABI Posted November 16 Posted November 16 I think a lot of it is cultural. Caring is not cool anymore.

As a kid you could watch 10 seconds of a clip and know which ground it was. Highbury, Villa Park, Old Trafford, A field, Baseball Ground, Salter gate. Soulless bowls can't be. They can still generate an atmosphere obviously but st marys, pride park, Middlesbrough. Fill it with different colour seats / sets of fans. No idea where I am. No character or soul Agreed- Goodson with the little D shapes behind the goal, the Dell with the chocolate boxes, Bramall Lane with one side missing, Stamford Bridge with the dog track and mobility scooters behind the goal. OK - not really suited to modern football but all unique

Don't think I've seen many posts on here about parking or m1? Many more posts about the stadium being out of date, unable to attract any other revenue to make the club money outside of match day, issues with small concourses, lack of spaces for [good quality] conferences/training/events (parking may be part of that?). I'm not nailed on either way by the way, like whether we stay and up date hillsborough or move to a new stadium at some point. I've never driven to a match day though, maybe if I did I'd feel differently and want it to be on a massive car park just off the motorway
Nannan Posted November 17 Posted November 17 I'd still be more than happy for us to replace the North Stand roof with this any then replace the West/Kop 5 1

Umeeksk Posted November 17 Posted November 17 I do love Hillsborough's character, and even if (as we probably need to) we were to rebuild three sides of it over the next decade or so, it would still be Hillsborough. It would be sad for the city to lose a site that's been hosting football since 1899, and it's not like anyone would build anything exciting or culturally enriching in its place. Anyway - regardless of whatever else we do, I'd want us to keep the clock and finial from the current South Stand. That clock is a 120+-year-old piece of football history and predates the entire stadium - it came with us from Olive Grove! 1 5

It would need to be a complete Spurs job where we move out, demolish everything, then rebuild with the pitch rotated about 30° counter clockwise to be perpendicular with the roads. The increased footprint would obviously be impacted by the river so there would need to be some specialist engineering in place. I don't mind the stadium being in the same location but the name absolutely has to change, as many have pointed out any internet search mostly references the disaster so we need out of that shadow.. New shiny sponsored stadium will do that job..

So, we're halfway there already. How is our Kop better than any stand at Stoke's ground? The Kop is terrible. Poor views with massive poles in the way. Shocking facilities, no concourses. Every stand at Stoke has a good unobstructed view of the pitch and concourses with good facilities. 1
Kentowl Posted November 17 Posted November 17 Can't see any mention of The Stadium of Light. I've been in most parts of that ground and the view and facilities are top notch. It also looks good in my opinion. 2 2
NorfolkParkOwl Posted November 17 Posted November 17 A modern train is souless in comparison to a steam engine. It lacks all the history and character but i know which I'd rather travel across the country on. Its hard to get away from a bowl design. If you were to design a new stadium, you'd make all the stands in the same vein for continuity and you'd fill the corners in....
niallzi Posted November 17 Posted November 17 A new location close to the M1 will be very ideal for us all that commute from within Sheffield on the tram and bus.
