i used to be sc_owl Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 In the early hours of this morning Sheffield United lost one of their biggest fans. My uncle was a passionate Sheffield United fan, and he passed away, and he was far too young. I know we have banter with the blades fans and I know this game is going to be one of the biggest derbies in both clubs recent history, but when I'm at the game on Sunday, I'll be thinking about the fact my uncle missed this match. The match he had a ticket for and was looking forward to all season. Some things are just more important than football. It would be nice on Sunday, if both Sheffield Wednesday fans and Sheffield United fans could remember that we're all football fans. 7

Mate, MOST things in life are more important than football, as fans we get all worked up about it & no doubt it's a big part of most fans lives but the reality is it really is only football.

It puts things into perspective. Never really understood the 'modern' hatred, myself. Rivalry, yes, vitriol, no way. Give him your thoughts on Sunday, eh, regardless of the outcome.
Tyto Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Very sorry to hear about your loss, sc_owl. Best wishes to you and your family. Sorry to hear about your loss mate. LW SWFC Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Sorry to hear that mate, all the best to you and his family and friends.
trevdi9 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 sorry about your loss mate my heart go's out to you and your family god bless you all at this sad time
Glaser Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Condolences mate Kind of puts football in the background. My grandad passed away just before the derby last year, he was a Rotherham fan, so naturally thought they were the biggest club in South Yorkshire !! It hurts like hell, but for those 90 minutes, he'll be on level par with the other love in your life.... trust me. You can share a smile with him above, come half time and utter some meaningful words...... you'll know he's got them Keep the good memories at the front though mate. Will see you through the worst of it 2
owl-zat Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Sorry to hear that SC_OWL Maybe your family or Wednesday organize something to commemorate this like place some flowers on your Uncle's seat for the game as a mark of respect with a note on the back of the seat for anyone United fan wondering what they are there for.

i used to be sc_owl Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Thanks for all the messages guys. Events like this put all the petty football rivalries in to perspective really. I know there's a group set up on facebook to get united fans to wear black armbands as a sign of respect, although the realist in me knows that it would probably be difficult to get wednesday fans to do this. My uncle was supposed to be going with his brother, another uncle of mine, and I think the ticket has been passed on to the best friend of my uncle that passed away.
owl-zat Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 It would be the least we could do after our two fallen fans who crashed traveling home from Coventry away 3 seasons ago and they were remembered by the crowd at a Derby game at Hillsborough with the United fans being fantastic and remaining silent also. R.I.P Shaun Rhodes who I had known for many years and his fellow owl who I forget the name of unfortunately!

senwar Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Sorry for your loss I lost my beloved nan yesterday. She was a fit and healthy 88 year old and suffered an anuerism. She was a Wednesday fan and we always had a chat about Wednesday when I visited her. It will make Sunday pretty poignant for me too. Puts things in perspective that's for sure.
