Chucked away a 2 goal lead. Again The torrential rain. The dog on the pitch chasing the ball & the crowd chanting 'sign him up!' Harkes getting sent off. The rain was so bad, it was going sideways & those at the front of the North Stand legged it further back, while the rest of the ground chanted 'Getting wet, getting wet, getting wet!' The rain against Coventry was immense & never ending. Seemed to last for about 4 days afterwards as well. The Wigan game was a farce. As I recall, the ball stopped perfectly in a puddle for them to score the easiest of goals before it was abandoned.

Just walking to the ground was horrific. I remember Wade Small cutting past someone with the ball, and as he sprinted towards goal he looked back to see the ball 5 yards behind him in a puddle. Think that was when the ref called it! To be fair he did that quite a lot even when the pitch was ok 3

I could be wrong though. Went to that one. If I remember there was a local league game going on as we walked away from the ground and the wednesday fans were running all over the pitch. 1
JackOwl1867 Posted Sunday at 11:18 Posted Sunday at 11:18 Not abandoned but my older brother would go help clear snow off the pitch for a match ticket.

PortlandOwl Posted Sunday at 11:26 Posted Sunday at 11:26 There's a big difference between abandoned and postponed.

Really bad winter in 80/81 I think they played the game right at the end of the season A proper dead rubber. West Ham were up by then I think you're right When I think back. I just wasn't sure what year. 1

We were due to play them in April but as someone said it was a bad winter, only time I've known snow on the ground on my birthday in April. Looking at our results for that season we had a blank weekend on 25th April so it must've been then. It was rearranged for a Friday night, which was very unusual back then, presumably it was FA Cup final weekend. 1
