The 'soulless bowl' new ground debate

I think it would be interesting to find where people are from on both sides of the discussion.

Just 'live in sheffield' or 'don't live on sheffield' will do.

For me - 'live in Sheffield'

To be fair, while the old lady can rock on her day, we are hardly a hot bed of electric atmosphere at most games.

A new start in a new stadium would not be the worst of ideas.

Have you used the tram after a show at the Arena? Pretty rammed to say the least. That's a far smaller venue than a prospective new ground would be. Yes I know the tram services Hillsborough but if there's a new build in the Meadowhall area for example, that would mean transporting thousands more into the area.

I just can't see them putting enough trams on, in fact I doubt the tram system would cope. It would need a major upgrade across the entire network. Any owner would have to pay for that or secure a lot of public funding.

The Velodrome is far too flat/shallow/open and massively over-lit (judging by that photo).

It's like all the atmosphere has to be generated through cheesy dance tunes being pumped through the PA system.

I would be amazed if a new owner built a new stadium in this climate. Only an idiot would part with that sort of money (plus all the rest of the moneythey would need to get us to even be competitive in the Championship). Also no public money on the table.

If we end up with americans they generally don't invest that much cash and look for a quick sale. Birmingham being the exception, where they stand to earn quite a lot of money renovating a huge portion of the city. Americans always want their money back, they don't throw free money around

I like the new Real Zaragoza's new stadium, 43,000 capacity. Id just have a single tier stand behind one of the goals for our Kop!

Yeah for sure. Our record revenue is about £26m. A new stadium would cost a minimum of £250m if it was to be bigger than Hillsborough. Its a pipe dream sadly

For me it’s more for retaining some individuality rather than the out of the box bowl. I’ve not been so no idea whether it works from an atmosphere point of view. Tbh I really like what they’ve done at spurs with the “kop” like stand.

Why £250M when the Zaragoza one above is going to cost about £110M.

Yeah, I mentioned this on another thread a few weeks back. It's a good one. Zaragoza not dissimilar to Wednesday in terms of size/recent underachievement, too.

Villa redeveloped a stand for £100m. I bet the Zaragoza stadium comes in at well over that. Everton was supposed to cost £500m and cost £800m

Maybe our new owners will be happy to splash the cash? A stadium is the ultimate legacy. 

We can at least dream for the next few weeks, eh?
