Flat Owl Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Stretchered off every week - still fit to play the following week…. Was right behind his overhead kick at Newcastle. Right man, right time.

4evaowl Posted April 15 Posted April 15 What an engine that guy had. He played in a two man midfield,(with Megson) when everyone else played with four. I was behind the goal Newcastle too when he did that overhead kick. Brilliant times. 1

Try telling that to todays players 2
DJMortimer Posted April 15 Posted April 15 The work that Shelton and Megson got through in that midfield, week in and week out, was remarkable when you think about it. And as pointed out above, it seemed like they hardly missed a minute of action between them for years. But not only did they have relentless energy, they were tough as anything despite neither of them being especially big, didn't mind getting involved in a scrap and could still produce moments of real quality. They would be appalled by the rolling around and histrionics of their modern counterparts. What a partnership they were. 2 4
eightbelow Posted April 15 Posted April 15 One of our best from my favourite era, 80-85, great days to be Wednesday. 2

Good fun days out ,always loads of Wednesdayites away from home as usual. UTO I don't think it was the crowds they get now though,Geordies were the same size as us, would there have been more than 18k ? At the game. Happy days !! Think there was about 35k at their place and it was 41k earlier in the season at S6.
