I suppose if your entire living fanbase can't recall the team winning a major trophy, or even just squeaking an occasional victory in the national stadium in any scenario, there's not much else you can really hang onto. They've never tasted anything better than being occasionally better than us, other than the odd decent result in the Prem, so that's all their ambition will ever be. I'm not that old, yet despite the terrible 25 years or so that we've been enduring, in my lifetime I've seen us win a major trophy, grab a few important wins at Wembley and the Millennium Stadium, finish third in the country and qualify for Europe (and it should've been three qualifications for Europe anyway).

I don’t think it’s actually happening more these days, but the response to a medical emergency is different now. It used to be a couple of stewards and St John’s Ambulance people responding, but now it’s more a full-on paramedics-and-club-doctor thing.

My memory of matches back in the late '80s and into the '90s is far, far better than my memory of any recent ones. A lot of this is probably because, as a kid, I used to watch the season review videos over and over again because I was rarely able to go to matches in person and rewatching the videos was the closest I could get. I can't remember most of the matches/results from recent seasons except for really significant ones (fortunately).

Yes we did. We got promoted in '91 and finished third in '92, qualifying for Europe for the '92-'93 season. I was fortunate enough to be in the players' lounge at Selhurst Park after the game against Palace where we drew and qualified for the UEFA Cup. Got to meet the players whilst they were celebrating European qualification (although some were disappointed that the draw meant we finish champions any longer).

That’s pretty much what’s happening anyway. If ever there’s a time where letting someone go for a hattrick penalty when they’ve earned the right to do so, then maybe a season where we’re guaranteed to finish bottom regardless could be that time.
