The impression that I got from the manager's post match interview on RS is that there were 3 designated penalty takers for the match. He seemed to be saying that the one who was feeling most confident at the time would take it and that giving the lad a hat trick wasn't part of it.

The overreaction to the missed penalty on here is sensational!!! Could have quite easily have scored and it would have been a master stroke and McNeill would have been the new David Hirst. The keeper guessed the right way…end of.

that missed penalty has zero impact on the outcome to this season…as fans we’ve worked our nuts off to help get shut of the rotten regime that has put out club on the brink, it’s not a show stopper by any means and not worth worrying about.

Makes sense to have 3 designated takers in the starting team because a late penalty decision could find two of them off injured or substituted.

After scoring two, McNeill would presumably have been confident.

Anyway his miss leaves Bannan top scorer with 3.  Bit pathetic, coming into December.

Supported Wednesday 44yrs, many of those years and still am a season ticket holder.

I simply can't forgive the decision to give McNeil that spot kick yesterday. Despite all the sorryful experiences lately supporting the Owls, we the fans who are doing everything possible to help the clubs situation absolutely deserved a professional attitude to that penalty.

Most of the clubs plight is out of anyone's hands but that was our own, ridiculous, sentiment based shot in the foot.  We deserved for once , especially after the inept " performance " against the pigs, to have just a chance of celebrating a potential win. You could tell a mile off which side McNeil was going to shoot , we even did the same for Ugbo and both those sentimental decisions cost us. We pay our money and turn up to see us give us the best chance of winning.

Despite being happy at the performance and that Cadamattri and McNeil were chosen ahead of Ugbo. I feel that penalty fiasco might just make me feel like not devoting any more of my time this season.

In Pederson's post match interview, to rub salt in the wound, he said the decision to allow McNeil to take the pen was not based on his hatrick potential!!

An admission and apology is necessary asap

He's a striker on two goals already, no reason not for him, not to take it.

Penalties are missed sometimes

Harry Kane has an amazing penalty record and yet he missed that one v France in World Cup (after scoring with a pen in same game!!)

Pens always favour the taker but even the best can miss. We’ve seen Bannan miss open play pens so whatever taker yesterday could have been hero or zero.
If a defender had scored our 2 goals with headers from set pieces then stepped up to take the pen, then I’d be saying it was a bad decision but McNeil is a striker.

Pens are confidence and technique. He had the former in spades but less so the latter. It happens. It’s not a conspiracy to punish our long suffering home fans.

Move on.

Bannan should have taken it, but it's not the end of the world.

I'm sure Baz has missed crucial penalties for us!!!

I think the OP will get over it!!!!

Baz has missed penalties before, but he would still be my 1st choice to take one.

I believe the global success rate for penalties is something like 76%. At least that's what the xG statistic has it registered at. And from memory, that's in keeping with the ratio of the most prolific such takers in history like Ronaldo and Messi. In other words, there's about a 1 in 4 chance of it being missed no matter who you have lining up. Such ridiculous histrionics as that opening post, and often with all the contemplation of the vagaries and possibilities that a light switch has, are just absolutely pathetic. And even had we won yesterday, what difference would it ultimately make? Getting relegated by 12 points instead of 15? Big bloody deal.

If McNeil was designated penalty taker then fair enough.

But I got the impression he wasn't by the players reactions and body language after it was given.

The players have left themselves open to criticism by letting sentiment get in the way.

So all this bedwetting about McNeil shouldn’t have taken the penalty and we still don’t know who is the nominated taker. You can’t write it.
