He'd taken one in a penalty shoot out though, at least.

A very coolly taken one too, as I remember. Panenka-like.

That penalty was fantastic.

Defender deliberately denied a goal scoring opportunity. Surely  a yellow  card, which for the defender would have been a second so a sending off.  Unless you are Wednesday.

It wasn’t a goal scoring opportunity, it was a pointless handball. Having said that I would assume that is a booking offence.

Not a goal scoring opportunity? Hes behind the last man if he doesn't handball it he has a shot at goal. . Weather he scores or not doesn't matter he has a shot at goal.  And beside that deliberate handball. 2nd yellow all day long.

Had he scored it, it would’ve been the perfect decision wouldn’t it? A hattrick and lift off for him in the best way. Hopefully the focus is on the two he scored. There is a player there

Who’s nominated !!!! The lads scored twice today and scored in both shoot outs why shouldn’t he take it

Good point. I forgot that.

3 times in a year we have let the wrong player take a penalty and it has possibly cost us a win . Ugbo against millwall , windass against preston last season when smith was on the pitch and today . It really needs to be made clear who’s on penalties and made clear there is no room for sentiment

It was a crap pen. There are valid arguments either way as to whether or not McNeill should’ve taken it. He took it, he missed it, end of story.

It doesn’t really matter anyway because we’re already down. I just hope his confidence isn’t affected too much by it because he was excellent in that first half and I think there’s a decent player in there.

I’ve never seen a player like it. Glimpses of real quality and then looks not good enough. Like he’s stuck in academy football and on the brink of breaking out.

We should stick with him. If he can find some consistency he will be very very good

I think if we are looking short term and trying to stay up, Bannan takes it. If we are trying to build confidence in players that will start to feature regularly this season and next, then McNeill takes it.

What difference do results make this season really? We looked decent for good parts, yes we lost but that means nothing this year.

We need to start winning a few games to build confidence. The longer we go without a win will destroy the confidence of the players.

Of course losing every game matters. What will holding the record for the lowest number of wins in Championship history do for the team's confidence going into next season.

Despite his 2 goals I bet McNeill is feeling really down now. I think that penalty miss by Ugbo earlier this year finished him, confidence wise.

Yeah he is strange like that and perhaps psychological. He looks to have been working on physicality and I think last three appearances have been bright. Given what the Manchester clubs felt he could’ve been, we have a free hit to really make sure we don’t miss a chance with him

People can moan all they want about the missed penalty but the reality is that our defence is so weak this season that missing a few penalties over the course of the season won't make a difference to anything

Spot on, if you’ll pardon the pun. The opportunity to give a young striker the chance of a first team hat trick was a better call than the alternative, in a season where we are absolutely guaranteed to get relegated. I do wish some of our fans would turn down the dial on their flounceometers.

Fans on here seem pretty split on what should’ve happened.

Personally, I just want what’s best for the club, and I don’t think an individual accolade of a hat trick does that.

Bannan needed to step up and take responsibility. Ingellsson had the ball so assume he is our nominated pen taker…. No room for sentiment and we should have learned that when Ugbo fouled up last season. This sentimental nonsense, and Pedersens failure to use subs until we are losing, cost us the game today.

poor given that the performance was so decent.
