Precisely because it would've been his second, ref bottled it. Then again he didn't give a yellow for their player taking a man out and stopping a promising attack either, nor for their player deliberately trying to boot the ball out of the stadium for no reason after their first goal, it fell just short in the south east corner.

Yeah, he was very reluctant to get the cards out today. Doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, but there were a few weird decisions as you’ve pointed out.

We all said around me that Bannan should take it as he's the designated penalty taker. After the Ugbo debacle last season this was totally baffling - and more worrying that Pederson didn't acknowledge that afterwards. 3
matthefish2002 Posted Saturday at 19:06 Posted Saturday at 19:06 I did feel a bit unprofessional to let McNeill take the penalty.
Dutch McLovin Posted Saturday at 19:09 Posted Saturday at 19:09 I don’t think this was an Ugbo situation at all to be honest. I do think Bannan should have taken it yes, captain and pen taker. Deffo should have taken it. But we’re talking about a striker who’s scored 2 and is on a hat trick. If he wanted it you can understand it. Ugbo couldn’t and still can’t hit a barn door, and clearly didn’t want it. 1 1

Doesn’t matter how many he’s scored, I think we can say that he wasn’t the designated penalty taker, it was done for sentimental reasons. The players had the opportunity to send the fans home happy for a change, it’s a concern that a captain chose sentimentality over winning the game. Keeping McNeil on two would have kept him hungry for more, missing the penalty might have knocked that confidence back. Shocking decision and even worse from the manager for not condemning it 2 1 1
Chadders Posted Saturday at 19:18 Posted Saturday at 19:18 I don't agree with it always being the nominated taker. I think it's whoever feels best equipped at that moment in time. There can be all sorts of reasons why and I really doubt that any team says the nominated player must always take the penalty. I'm sure the nominated player is usually best equipped, but not always. On occasion it might be best for someone else to take it. Kicking up massive fuss because Bannan didn't take this one is stupid. McNeill is a professional and is perfectly capable of scoring a pen. As others have said, anyone can miss a pen. Imagine of Baz has taken it and missed - many people on here would be moaning saying why didn't they let McNeill take it, he was confident and on a trick etc. Let's not get all stressed about this. It's done now. 1 1

Would you trust it to someone who's never scored a penalty in professional football. Which I don't think he has. 1 1

The Batman Posted Saturday at 19:27 Posted Saturday at 19:27 Keeper dives the wrong way and it's a decent penalty Cadamateri's 1 on 1 with the keeper was just as big a chance These things happen Would've been nice to get a result but nowt to lose sleep over is it 1 1
McRightSide Posted Saturday at 19:28 Posted Saturday at 19:28 Personally I think they should have let him take it left footed so he could try for a perfect hattrick 2

Ultimate high pressure situation and defenders, midfielders and strikers all scored. Definitely could have done with Jack Hunt today
