The club needs a complete reset.

We need some actual foundations.

I'd like to get back in the Premier League just to say we did it (get that 🐒 off our back), but there's a lot more to it than that. Look, we were only a few games away from that happening under Channers...

A few teams have managed back to back, Ipswich being the last. I think given the scale of the rebuild, the genuine target will be 3/4 years for the prem. However, as you say, patience is not the virtue of a billionaire, so maybe we could see spendaggedon on another scale!

Well it certainly isn't the virtue of a considerable number of our fans!

Let's all just relax and try to enjoy the ride wherever it takes us.

Any prospective new owner has to have a plan that involves Premier League football

Whether or not we believe this is realistically possible in the near future (or if some fans really arent fussed about it), this has to be the goal

Imagine the first press conference and our new owners says ‘We’re here to make Sheffield Wednesday the best mid table championship team within 5 years’

We’d probably he happy with this as we sit here today but we expect to have a bit more ambition

There isn't a new billionaire owner though.

Just securing the club's existence for future generations to enjoy would be a massive win.  Couldn't care less about the Premiership.

Do you honestly think future generations will turn out to watch a League One / Championship team with no ambition other than survival?  Support will gradually decline without genuine Premier League aspirations - so many other things now compete for people’s time and money.  It will take a couple of years to stabilise, but Champ play-offs or Premier League in 5 years sounds like a plan.  Whilst the Premier League is by no means perfect, it will certainly be the ambition of any new owner.  I get the impression some fans would prefer the Championship as it’s easier to park, quicker to get to the bar and shorter queues for their Beres.

For you that are not bothered about the premier,Unfortunately that is where all the money is ,Do you honestly believe someone is going to buy the club and build a new stadium new training ground,And not want this club in the premier.

I am bored with being patient with Wednesday.

In 21/22 Sunderland were in the 3rd division with us  they are now doing well in the premiership, it can be done.

There is no reason why a properly ran and funded Wednesday should not challenge for promotion from the 3rd division straight away.

Calm down relax we don't know what sort of owner we will get only then should we have these OP

Yes, 100% this. There’s just no point speculating until it’s confirmed who our owners will be

So, with DC gone and a new billionaire owner now in charge, what comes next for the club?

1. Relegation to League One is now almost certain.

2. The new owner will finally be able to invest properly in the stadium, training ground, and overall infrastructure.

3. With modern facilities and a stronger structure behind the scenes, SWFC could start attracting better youth prospects — though any real benefit from that will take years.

4. Even in League One, we’ll need to strengthen the squad if we want to push for promotion. The question is: how much can we invest without falling foul of FFP?

5. Once back in the Championship, further investment in the squad will be needed just to avoid another relegation battle.

6. If the goal becomes pushing for the play-offs, then even more spending will be required. Championship squad values can exceed £90m, so the gap is huge.

7. How do we realistically compete with the top Championship sides when the financial gulf — especially for clubs receiving parachute payments — is so large?

8. How long will it take for us to genuinely challenge at the top end of the Championship again? That would likely require developing quality players in-house or finding bargain signings with high upside — both risky and long-term approaches.

Wednesday fans have already waited 25 years without Premier League football, but it could easily take another five years or more unless FFP rules change.

And the biggest unknown of all: how patient will our new billionaire owners be? Will they take a long-term approach, or will they go “full Wolves” and spend aggressively at the right moment, accepting the risk of fines to chase promotion?

I think you might have skipped a few stages to suggest we've a Billionaire owner now in charge. Shall we wait to see how the bidding goes first, then see who the preferred bidder is? I'm sure it will be a Billionaire, but we've not yet crossed that line.

As for Q4., there is no FFP as such in L1. It's SCMP (Salary Cost Management Protocol) which restricts player related expenditure to 60% of the previous seasons turnover. Our turnover last season was, I believe, around the £26M mark. If the same this season, and it's likely to be less, then that would equate to around £15.6M on players wages, bonuses and transfers. We might end up with a transfer kitty of around £2 - 3M.

On top of this, an owner can inject cash. There is no strict limit on the amount of cash that can be injected, but under the new SCMP rules for next season, only 60% of any cash injected can be used for wages and transfers. So the new owner might put in £10M, giving us an extra £6M on wages and transfers. Or a £100M (I'm sure this amount wouldn't actually be allowed) giving us an extra £60M.

Infrastructure, as in all levels of the game, is exempt from any SCMP/FFS/PSR rules.

Really not fussed about the PL and it's 'look at me' and "we are the best' status. I'd just love to be in the mix for players with teams in the Championship and those players wanting to join us. That means competing with a number of teams dropping from the PL but with new owners and a clear identity this is eminently possible.

Novelty would soon wear off if we became a premier League yoyo club, it's no fun, football is the most overrated sport In the world in my opinion!
