Relegation to League One is now almost certain. 2. The new owner will finally be able to invest properly in the stadium, training ground, and overall infrastructure. 3. With modern facilities and a stronger structure behind the scenes, SWFC could start attracting better youth prospects — though any real benefit from that will take years. 4. Even in League One, we’ll need to strengthen the squad if we want to push for promotion. The question is: how much can we invest without falling foul of FFP? 5. Once back in the Championship, further investment in the squad will be needed just to avoid another relegation battle. 6. If the goal becomes pushing for the play-offs, then even more spending will be required. Championship squad values can exceed £90m, so the gap is huge. 7. How do we realistically compete with the top Championship sides when the financial gulf — especially for clubs receiving parachute payments — is so large? 8. How long will it take for us to genuinely challenge at the top end of the Championship again? That would likely require developing quality players in-house or finding bargain signings with high upside — both risky and long-term approaches. Wednesday fans have already waited 25 years without Premier League football, but it could easily take another five years or more unless FFP rules change. And the biggest unknown of all: how patient will our new billionaire owners be? Will they take a long-term approach, or will they go “full Wolves” and spend aggressively at the right moment, accepting the risk of fines to chase promotion? Point 3 is the main one, to make us sustainable we need to develop young players to sell on for profit then go again. I’ve got 5 years in my head to make us sustainable and competitive? The biggest spend dhould be facilities at this stage!
yeadonowl Posted Saturday at 07:57 Posted Saturday at 07:57 The main issue any new owner will have next year will be overseeing a brand new squad We could need up to 20 players in the summer. Irrespective of wealth building a team with so many new players won’t be easy 1
royalowlisback Posted Saturday at 08:05 Posted Saturday at 08:05 We don't even know if we will be taken over yet - yet alone by a Billionaire. Lets just see what happens first - if and when the new owner(s) walks through the door - lets here their plans. 2
Sheffieldrams Posted Saturday at 08:11 Posted Saturday at 08:11 The Rams came out of administration 3.5 years ago and we are just pushing the play-off positions. We spent 5.8 million on one player in the summer and 13 million overall. We are work in progress and there are far better teams in the Championship than us at the moment. The problem for the Owls is how much money and how many transfer windows will you need to build the squad back up again. The EFL will insist on a business plan and will monitor and sign off every signing you make for the next 2 years at least.

Guess its not a problem to worry about for a while yet! Yes exactly this. It's years away if at all, we've got way more important things to sort out before we can even begin to think about it.
hasthagotanycheese Posted Saturday at 08:15 Posted Saturday at 08:15 None of the bidders will be buying Wednesday with a view to bumbling around between L1 and the Chanp. The Prem is where the money is and with the right sort of investment and the right people in charge a return to the top flight within 3 - 5 years is not an unreasonable expectation. Serious people will be wanting a serious return on their money and we are in for an exciting few years in my opinion. 5

The OP suggests it won’t take long for questions to be raised of the new owners’ ambitions / plans.

Think fans will be patient as long as they see things happening Even small things like seeing a proper off field management structure taking place, a sensible ticketing approach and some basic stadium improvements. All of these are quick wins and demonstrates things are moving in the right direction 2

It would be like an England fan watching the qualifiers but not being interested about the World Cup Of course it can be an end goal, but we're a million miles away from even thinking PL right now.
owlinexile Posted Saturday at 08:44 Posted Saturday at 08:44 There isn't a new billionaire owner though. Just securing the club's existence for future generations to enjoy would be a massive win. Couldn't care less about the Premiership. 2

No one buying us (or any other club for that matter) is doing it for the love of SWFC. They see an opportunity to get to the Prem and swim in the riches there. Problem is of course, with more and more foreign investors owning clubs now, they all want the same and the Prem ain't big enough for all of them. What an investor owner has to get right is the plan for when that return isn't realised in the timeframe they expected. DC shot his entire load in one. Hopefully our new owners will have the funds / plan to keep us hovering around the top of the Championship ready to strike and spend heavier when the league looks weak and the relegated Prem teams have known financial issues.

Kevan Posted Saturday at 09:15 Posted Saturday at 09:15 It's all well and good saying the money is in the Premier league, but also the transfer fees are just ridiculous too, as are the wages paid. The only sustainable way is the Brentford model. Sign young players with development potential , keep some, sell others to make more signings and gradually strengthen the squad. That also needs a proper football structure with a business plan consistent with the above values. It will take patience, but it can't be worse than what we've suffered over the last 25 years.
