TheSlicer Posted November 24 Posted November 24 Come on then let’s have a little bit of fun. let’s assume we can sign frees and loans next year give us a couple of realistic loans that you’d like, and a couple of realistic frees that are currently in the remaining 7-8 months of their contract who you think could develop in L1 and progress to championship the following season.
Hunter91 Posted November 24 Posted November 24 Think Valery and Inglesson won’t want to play league one football. Same with Benard and Max Lowe. They’ll probably leave. I’d probably keep; Bannan, Palmer, Cadimateri, Weaver, Charles and grainger. 4
nile Posted November 24 Posted November 24 I think most premier league clubs will be throwing youngsters at us on loan. 1 7

Promotion isn't on the agenda currently, but that could change. League 1 is a very tough league, ask Luton Town. 4

LJM Owl Posted November 24 Posted November 24 Personally, the 4 current free agents I’d love us to try and sign with a view to playing next season in League 1 would be Fosu-Mensah, Reece Oxford, Emmanuel Dennis and Jayden Braaf. Oxford and Fosu Mensah have both had significant injury problems but also have insane upside if we can get them fit and they’re in the prime of their careers age wise. Jayden Braaf is a failed wonderkid in the vein of Musaba, still young and at the start of his career, all upside. Emmanuel Dennis is a very solid squad option at championship level, would probably get 15-20+ goals in league 1 and is only 28. 2

Madness if we gave them 3 year deal when we signed them, being either unknowns or injury prone. I think Bernard will stay after being injured for the last year. Valery and Charles will probably want to leave. Depending on how ambitious the new owners are, there's a slim chance we get Charles to sign a new contract. Palmer and Bannan I'm so undecided on. Bannan turns 36 next month - we badly need a replacement for him, but at the same time, everything he has done this summer, he deserves a new contract. Palmer is 35 next summer, and really we need better if we want promotion. The other youngsters, need to go back to being young players getting minutes when we can give them

Palmer as a footballer in league one. No problem. Palmer as a character in the dressing room, a steadying and calming influence, someone who can put his arm round younger players and lend his experience. Invaluable at that level. Palmer as a swfc fan, and a one club man, his enthusiasm and love for the club being at home and knowing everyone around the ground, all the staff, all current and ex players, connection with the fans. Absolutely 100000% deserves to stay on 2 2 1 1 24
Popular Post sheffield_dave Posted November 24 Popular Post Posted November 24 (edited) We probably need to sign 10 players to put a proper squad with any depth together, and that’s before factoring in any of the current team leaving. Moving Bannan and Palmer on is just an unnecessary headache. You need some cornerstones to build around and embed a squad together. We want to be putting our resources into helping Bannan with proper support in the middle, or even options to give him the occasional midweek off, not replace him entirely. Warhurstsleftfoot Posted November 24 Posted November 24 Keep the kids and everyone else say bye bye and thank you for your service. Unfortunately we will be seeing quite a few of the current has-beens and never-will-be in L1 next season. But one day it will change. Patience

Can cover the entire back line and half of midfield. Has a fantastic injury track record, lives local, loves the club, is respected by the young players, would do wonders to help bring a young team through. I also reckon he'd take a reduced wage and stay on to become our all time highest appearance maker 2 1 7
