Miffed Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago That’s how bothered they are about Wednesday,….. that every single one of them found the England women more important. Couldn’t have just one of them turned up to Hillsborough today or split the duties.

One of the biggest issues is that the band will often jump into leading a song in a completely different key to the one the crowd has already started. When that happens, it kills the natural momentum because everyone has to suddenly adjust and it puts people off joining in. It changes the feel and flow of the chant completely. They are also incredibly loud on the Kop which means the Kop naturally ends up following whatever the band plays. That leaves the North Stand and sometimes South singing at a different tempo or even a different point of the song. So the atmosphere becomes split instead of unified and it all ends up feeling quite artificial rather than organic crowd noise. To be fair to them they are good at lifting things when it goes quiet and they can get something going that might not have started otherwise. The issue is mainly when a song has already been started in the crowd and they come in over the top in a totally different key or tempo which shuts down the natural flow. I am not anti band and I understand why they are there, but from a musical and atmosphere perspective those issues really do affect participation and the natural energy in the ground. YES. Cannot agree with and emphasise that first paragraph enough. For me this problem is even worse than their timing, which will always be a difficult thing to get right in a ground as cavernous as hillsborough. I appreciate this can quickly start to sound very w*nky, but the band consistently play in a key that’s convenient to play on brass instruments, but is several tones lower than the range you hear football supporters sing at. Meaning the people singing along don’t project sound as well and songs die away more quickly. In an ideal universe there’d probably be some compromise solution where the band agreed to only join certain songs where the key fits in better, and/or learn to bump their songs up a couple of tones. However, In reality the ringleaders have consistently proven themselves too egotistical to take any feedback on board, and they’re almost certainly not good enough musicians to alter the way they play in any case. They need to go - the new owners would score a million points with me if they use this to score an early quick win. 6

archieswfc Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I wonder what would happen if they were told they couldn't bring there instruments in anymore. Would they turn up without them or just not turn up at all?

TBH I'm part of the reason they've been here for so long...at their first show at a pre-season friendly at Chesterfield... Hemmingham was blowing his ********' instrument in mine and our young un's ears and Sam said to him " if you blow that ********' trumpet one more time I'm going to shove it down your throat " and much to my eternal regret I talked him out of it. They fooked off at half time and we didn't see them again until they ended up in the Kop...Sorry peeps Edited 20 hours ago by Daveyboy66 1
