I get that. What I'm saying is if it's 'we can't guarantee safety because these fans are too violent' then that's one thing. If it's 'we can't guarantee safety because these fans are too violent and Israeli', it's something else.

So if another club with a violent fan base that isn't Israeli comes to the West Midlands any time soon and aren't banned, it's going to be a bad look for WMP.

If the argument is that it is for safety, then I guess that if PSG came calling, or Ajax, or AEK Athens, or Dinamo Zagreb, or Roma, or West Ham for a PL game, or Milwall or any number of teams will be banned too.

For me, a stupid decision that has now put more emphasis on a fragile situation, especially if they reverse it and let the fans back in.

It’s not *just* violence though - it’s the overtly racist element to the MTA fans’ violence which is the issue here.

I imagine if there was a club who had a large number of fans that had recently been going around singing “death to Jews” and violently targeting Jewish people in the street then the Met Police would probably take the same action if that club were to play Spurs away, for example.

At a time of heightened sensitivity as well.

Seems very much like one of those issues where you are going to be wrong regardless.

They've issued the ban and opened up a can of worms.

Similarly, you do nothing, and it all kicks off, and then plenty will be turning around and demanding to know why a ban wasn't issued given the current climate and previous indiscretions.

Exactly. There’s obviously a risk that it could massively kick off and the authorities have decided that the best/only way to mitigate that risk is to bar away fans from travelling.

If MTA don’t like the decision, perhaps they should do something about the large racist element in their fanbase.

Which ever set of violent Euro fans arrive at Villa Park……..surely it’s not going to be anywhere near a Villa v Birmingham City derby.

The West Midland police seem to be able to cope with that one.

To be honest no one knows the details of the security risk…..

reports say that the government are having discussion with the West Midlands police this morning.

The counter protest move shouldn't be ignored here either. An Israeli team in Aston is likely to attract alot of attention from Palestinian supporting Muslims in the area.

Walking through the streets shouting anti-Muslim/anti-Arab stuff, and glorifying the death of Palestinian kids, is also likely to attract a lot of attention from that group.

Cant believe the police have got so much stick for finally getting something football-related 100% correct.

This is why, but this is why there's an outrage. We now have a part of the country the police admit they can't handle. Considering anytime you call certain areas 'no-go areas', you have thousands calling you racist, now WMP is admitting they have to mandate a no go area.

Agree 100%. Doing that in a city with a large Muslim community is a recipe for disaster. It is absolutely nailed on if their fans did attend that they would behave like that too.

They are not admitting it is a no-go area or they cannot handle it. They have completed risk assessments based on individual circumstances and concluded that the risk is too high. They should be applauded for taking this approach.

They have admitted it. That's why they're saying for Maccabai fans not to go there.
