scram Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Qualifying for tournaments is literally just about qualifying I get frustrated watching some games but tbh it's all forgotten when the tournament starts. Looking at the direction of travel we must have a fit and firing Bellingham and Saka. And still need to sort out the defence Received James is not a peak Kyle Walker and while Burn has his attributes I'm not sure he'll stand up to the toughest tests 1 1

We need a Terry, Rio, Sol et al kind of player that can organise and dominate at the back but I fear these kind of defenders will be coached out of the game at top level. Everyone want's ball playing CB's these days and not a tough, gritty kind of defender. Full backs also don't look the best. We had one of the best ever in Ashley Cole - Actually we seem to have swapped roles. We had some good defenders a while back but not quite enough quality up the other end of the pitch. 1
SiJ Posted September 6 Posted September 6 We once had an abundance of world class and high end defenders. Now, we have who? Stones and Guehi are probably the two standouts, but the former is a crock. Maguire has done well for England, but places limitations on how you want to play.

Screen Door Slams Posted September 7 Posted September 7 I like Eze but still think Grealish would be more effective and I think he needs to utilise Gibbs-White a lot more than he is doing currently. Overall I have got a horrible Capello style feeling about this manager. 1 1
Bannofan Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Paul Watson on the Guardian Football Weekly warned that Andorra are not a 'stick 7 or 8 ' past them team anymore, and have only concede more than 2 once in the last calender year. England are much more likely to stick 4 or 5 past Serbia, who will try and play a bit and attack us. I'm still not convinced with Tuchel though. I don't the players are particularly pulling out the stops for him. Thing is, he will be in charge for the next year's WC because we will qualify .

FreshOwl Posted September 7 Posted September 7 (edited) Christ, give the bloke a chance. The media are insufferable, it’s not club football he isn’t with them every week. I’m not even the biggest fan of his and would prefer an Englishman, but 5 games in cmon Edited September 7 by FreshOwl

Two major U21 trophies. Seriously, who do you think should be starting from that team who beat Germany? Quansah? Livramento?
EvanGeorgeParkin Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Think the amount of goals the other ‘major’ nations scored tonight shows how negative and boring we’ve become. The players ARE good enough, the sideways possession obsessive football has ruined them. Rice and Lewis-Skelly are so frightened to go forward because of Arteta. Same happened to Grealish under Pep and it WILL happen to Eze and Madueke. Palmer was also told last Christmas he would be dropped at Chelsea if he didn’t stop shooting and passing ‘with risk’. Look what’s happened to his form since then? 1
Lowry Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Looks to me like players trying to avoid injury. Which I'm alright with, England guaranteed to qualify anyway

Livramento? who said anything about starting?? A couple more of them young lads should be in and around the first team squad rather than calling up 30+ year old has beens/never was players!!
