fredmciverslovechild Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Just as a matter of interest I've checked City's National South play offs record. My God..... 2008/09 - Lost to Hampton & Richmond - 1-3 (H) 0-0 (A) 2009/10 - Lost to Bath City - 0-2 (A) 0-1 (H) 2012/13 - Lost to Salisbury City - 1-0 (H) 0-2 (A). Conceded a last minute goal in the second leg 2016/17 - Beat Dartford - 0-0 (H) 2-1 (A). Lost to Ebbsfleet United - 1-2 (A). City went a goal up in the final just after half time and then Ebbsfleet had a player sent off. Somehow City threw it away.... 2017/18 - Lost to Hampton & Richmond - 0-1 (H) 2018/19 - Lost to Welling United - 2-3 (A) 2022/23 - Lost to St Albans City - 0-1 (H) 2023/24 - Lost to Braindead Town - 2-3 (H). So they've won two of 13 play off games. Worse record than United's......
Beighton Owl 87 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Bridlington Town forced to replay their tiw again tonight because the ref failed to allow Knaresborough an additional sub in extra time last week. Thankfully they won 4-1 but had to postpone a league game for this to be replayed. What a farce that is for something they had no control over.
SnowyOwl13 Posted August 13 Author Posted August 13 Stocksbridge drew 0-0 with Whitby Town in their return to the NPL Prem. More interesting and exciting than the scoreline suggests, also had a floodlight that caught on fire. 1
beswetherick Posted August 19 Posted August 19 First home game of the league season for Hallam tonight finished 1-1 against Bradford Park Avenue. Hallam could’ve been out of sight by half time but ex-Wednesday youth keeper Jack Hall made a good penalty save to keep the score at 1-0 and was then saved by the post a few minutes later. Bradford PA - who were captained by ex-Owl Mark Beevers - scored a cracking second half equaliser, and a draw was a fair result. Decent performance from Hallam against good quality opposites who were four levels above them a few seasons ago. Hallam have drawn all three of their league games so far and won in the FA Cup at the weekend - a solid start to the campaign. 1
matthefish2002 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Last night had a drive to Derbyshire for the big Local Derby. Finished Staveley Miners Welfare 5 Dronfield Town1 in the United Counties League Div 1. £5 entry £2 Programme Crowd 221. Scoreline was a bit harsh on Dronfield but were so terrific goals from the home side. Really is a terrific set up in Staveley and someone told me the Chairman is a Wednesdayite and that is why everything is blue and white stripes.
SnowyOwl13 Posted August 21 Author Posted August 21 Oh god, the referee at Stocksbridge. Missed the ball going out of play, Cleethorpes then go to scare. Was being ran by the Cleethorpes manager, he was the only person to shout for the penalty in the 90th minute, and he got it! Steels lose 3-1 in the end.
huddsOWL Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Emley have just signed former Wednesday defender Connor O' Grady on loan from Cleethorpes Town for a month and also signed former Owls academy player Carlos Rodrigues.

Should not be happening at that level. At all.
beswetherick Posted August 25 Posted August 25 First win at NPL level for Hallam at Sandygate this afternoon in front of a crowd of 800+ (including Henrik Pedersen). Hallam were fortunate to get a second-half penalty for a very soft handball with the score at 1-1 before a great looping header from a corner sealed a 3-1 win over visitors Blyth Town.
punkskaphil Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Today I went to see my local side, AFC Uckfield Town for the first time, playing in Southern Combination Division One. They lost 2-1 to their local rivals Ringmer AFC. 1

fredmciverslovechild Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Went to Chelmsford City v Chippenham Town in the National South on Saturday. A hard fought 2-1 win for City gained by two very late goals after it looked as though the visitors would steal the points. Winner was deep into added time with the scorer being sent off for taking his shirt off having being yellow carded earlier. Honestly, why do players do this when they know what the penalty is? A goalless draw at Maidstone United yesterday so City have conceded only two goals in their opening five league games. Trouble is they have scored only three themselves. Their play is very impressive; in the two games I've seen they have had far more of the possession and it was apparently the same in two of the three away games played. But having the ball means nothing without an end product and the lack of goals is a concern. But Lyle Taylor (weren't Wednesday linked with him a few years back?) is still to make his debut so hopefully he has some goals in him. At least the bubble hasn't burst yet.....

He was training with us when Xisco was manager. Didn't sign as Xisco was sacked not long after and I think he ended up at somewhere like Wimbledon or Colchester instead.

He rejected a new contract at Colchester after they wanted him to take a big pay cut and signed for Chelmo, two divisions lower. Must still be on a fair whack, for the league, so hope he can deliver.
