SWFC v PNE Player ratings
Ronaldo1972 replied to Owlabroad2001's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Horvath - 6 Couple of good saves, can't ask anymore of him, especially since he's almost always exposed by our defense when we concede Valery - 7 Slotted into the CB role really well, his best game for a while Otegbayo - 6 Didn't do much wrong apart from losing his man for a goal. Part of the defense that's usually so leaky though Palmer - 7 Worked his socks off, really put in a good shift. This is the LP we always want to see Fusire - 5 He did ok, but didn't have much of an impact on the game Ingelsson - 6.5 Another hard working performance and the deeper role suited him in this game Bannan - 7.5 Pulled the strings as always. It's so hard to criticize BB for anything due to the effort he always puts in Amass - 6.5 Great first half from the lad, seemed to tire in the second J.Lowe - 6.5 Much better performance than the last couple of games Cadamarteri - 5.5 Hard working with no end product. Really should have scored that 1v1. Ugbo would have been slaughtered (on here) for the same miss McNeill - 7 Took his two goals really well and could (and should) had had more. No blame for the penalty miss. The lad was brave enough to take it Cooper - 6 Solid when he came on, looking forward to him being fully match fit Redmond - 5 Couple of glimpses but hard to score in the time he had The first half is the best I've seen us play in a long time, sadly we were off it in the second. Subs were made a little too late (in my opinion) -
Yes, 100% this. There’s just no point speculating until it’s confirmed who our owners will be

SWFC V Preston North End, the Smith/Valentin Derby

I can’t see anything other than an away win. I’d be surprised if we score, given our lack of bite up front -
Lowest Championship Points Total?

Annoying things about modern football and Sunday.
Ronaldo1972 replied to WimJunk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
It has indeed. Looking over the ball, part of its circumference must be over the quadrant's white line. It's harder to spot on the other side, as the linesmen are only on the goalkeeper's left, so if a corner is being taken from his right, the ref may not spot where the ball actually is. It's not like one or two inches makes a difference anyway! -
I wouldn't be too bothered either way. Him and Kobacki were two poor (Röhl) signings, although we were very limited with what we could get at the time, thanks to tuna man. Both may do well in League 1 though, hard to say

Stretch couldn't be brought in when Horvath got sent off, as we'd used all our subs?

More formal bids expected at SWFC today
Ronaldo1972 replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Aye. I’ve got a horrible feeling we’re going to feel underwhelmed by the new owners, but it surely has to be an improvement over tuna chops -
Mike Ashley in coming, along with....

Welcome back TalksTheTalk....hahaha -
Yes indeed. We should have all known this was never going to be a quick fix. The initial euphoria of being placed into admin, simply to get rid of the oxygen thief, will naturally dwindle until we're bought by a (hopefully rich and sensible) new owner. League 1 for next season seems totally unavoidable with the resources (players) we've got available but I doubt there'll be a better supported L1 team next year. The support and togetherness has been incredible since that tool was ousted

Horvath: 6 did well to keep the score "respectable" with some good stops. Maybe could've done better with at least one goal, but no blame. Defenders exposed him again Palmer: 3.5 a poor day for Liam, who would simply be a peripherey player had we got a full squad Iorfa: 2.5 deary me...one brilliant block/tackle then went off "injured". Almost cost us another goal and isn't up to the required standard M. Lowe: 4 largley ineffective in defence, sad when he looked pretty solid prior to today Fusire: 3.5 just when we thought he was improving on a weekly basis too. Poor game today from the lad Amass: 7 really put himself about in the first half and didn't shirk anything. It's obvious he's destined for a good future and that certainly won't be with us Valery: 3.5 maybe a bit of tiredness due to international duty and travel but wasn't up for this today Bannan: 5 worked hard but was pretty anonymous in this game. Extra point for that superb pass early on. As much as I hate to say it, I haven't seen him have a good game against the pigs Ingelsson: 4.5 grafted like a mule but as usual, no end product and poor first touches J. Lowe: 4 nah, he's not our answer up front but worked hard I suppose? Ugbo: 2 neither is he. Why does HP keep picking him? He's up there with the worst strikers I've seen at Wednesday Cooper: 6 looked assured and solid when he had to come on earlier than what he probably expected. Can only keep improving with fitness Cadamarteri: 4.5 another grafter with no end product. Puts himself about but no service as usual McNeill: 4 out of his depth in the championship. Doubt he'll improve for next season in L1 Webb (ref): 5 Hmm...so/so game really, missed a lot of fouls from both teams. Game was possibly "too big" for him? I don't like to be negative towards any of the players, as I'd like to think they're all doing their best, but today there were so many who weren't up for any kind of game, never mind a derby against those scrubbers. No threat to United at all, who we made look like world beaters (who could have beaten us by 5 or 6), even though it was glaringly obvious why they've been getting beaten a lot. The only player I have lost any kind of faith/interest in is Ike Ugbo. Before every game I keep hoping to see him put a shift in, maybe get a booking for an over-zealous lunge for the ball at the last gasp, put his head where some wouldn't put their boot but it's just not happening. He's nothing more than a wage thief

Barry bannan the steel derby magician
Ronaldo1972 replied to Luke's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Yep. Even though the pigs aren’t a great side, we made them look brilliant today -

But he’s one player I could never bring myself to berate. Look at who he’s got around him? Too many players that aren’t on his wavelength -

Well that was a very depressing watch. We all know who’s to blame for what we see on the pitch but only Amass (especially first half) and Horvath can come out of that with any satisfaction of putting a shift in. Too many players, even after a fortnight rest, didn’t seem to grasp the magnitude of the fixture. Onwards and upwards though, the main aim this season has been achieved

NEWS: DNA spray to be used at Sheffield derby
Ronaldo1972 replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Pigs will just wear their Matalan finest and if they get sprayed, they'll bin them when they get back to their pigsties -
I got the same, mate but received two identical emails for the same membership. Hope I'm not being charged twice, haha

So let me get this straight, boss...I kick the round thing through the white metal rectangle at the end of the pitch? Nah...still not getting it....

Harry Amass Will Not Be Recalled!
Ronaldo1972 replied to TZOwl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I was scared Hirsty was going to leave for Man Utd at the time, they tried to get him a few times. Who could blame them at the time, Hirst was on fire and would have thrived there, providing he avoided his injuries. I read in the book "A Quarter Of Wednesday" that he'd have jumped at the chance to join them but I'm glad TF stuck to his guns and refused Fergie's approaches -
@Owlabroad2001 it does make you wonder why he doesn't give any of the younger players a run out. This season is a complete dead-rubber, so why not give them some game time? It surely can't hurt or affect their progress and we may get an idea of what they'll be like in L1 next season. I said earlier (in another thread I think), that all he seems to do is rotate the strikers

Ah right, thanks mate

That brings back memories, thank you! Out in Sheffield around 20:00, onto the coach around midnight then a long trip to Dover, full of enthusiasm and excitement. Couple of beers on the ferry across the channel then back onto the coach and a long slog through France and Belgium, stopping at some remote and weird place for some food (undescribable meat, chips and veg with gravy). Footy in a field for a bit and then back on the coach to Luxembourg, arriving just before kick off. Stone cold sort of hot dog thing in the ground, few pics with the stadium police, one-sided 1-2 to us and then straight back on the coach to do it all in reverse. Had my contact lenses in for the duration, got home looking like someone had sprayed Hai Karate into my eyes, haha. Fun times indeed x

100%, mate. That horrible cowbag left us in a truly dire situation and we are where we are thanks to him. Yes, we have a distinct lack of quality through our small squad, but (apart from one or two), the effort they put in is truly remarkable. The Cov game aside, we aren't getting destroyed in every game and everyone that knows and loves football should be able to appreciate the situation we're in and applaud the effort the management, players, staff and fans contribute
