Make it tenner a ticket rest of winter
WimJunk replied to MF TAZ's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Casual fans won't turn up to watch a losing side. Lee Strafford found this out years ago and now Wigfield is finding out now, as shown yesterday. We've never got 30k to watch a winning side in my lifetime, it sure isn't happening now. -
It was a missed pen in the most pointless season in the clubs history. I was disappointed he missed, but who cares?
-
There was a time in the mid to late 90's where fans were well behaved. Gates weren't as big as now, but I remember going to away games back then and it felt like people were there to follow the team, rather than have a mass booze and drugs knees up.

It's hard to believe the 2 separate paths we've been on as clubs, since narrowly losing in the plays to them, in 2022. They have had their tough times lately, but I think moving to their current ground gave them the opportunity to be a much bigger club than they used to seem and bounce back better from hard times Hopefully we can tap into the same potential. I've noticed that Hillsborough has a lot of the same old faces sat around me, for many years. We need to tap into the possibilities to attract new fans and even football tourists. That can only be done through improved facilities and a winning team. At the moment we have neither.....

Football is a strange sport. Nobody would have a fight at the cinema, if someone left early because they didn't like the film.

He played like Maradona first half and Madonna in the second. He's got a finish on him. Reminds me a bit of di piedi (for those old enough). Unless he's scoring, what does he do?
-
I don't think playing Metallica's worst song is going to help us now.
-
A lot of season ticket holders around me didn't turn up today. It doesn't look like many 4 match bundles were sold either. But, it is the worst season in the clubs history. We sometimes play ok, but we still lose every game.
-
I would say we are a bigger club than Coventry, but not by a huge amount. They won the FA cup in 1987 and we won the league cup in 1991. We were on a par in the league, in the 80's and 90's. We have a bit bigger fanbase.

Have we ever had home form like this?
WimJunk replied to WimJunk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
A few experts thought Plymouth would bounce straight back, but they are really struggling. Make no mistake, there's a lot of work to be done, to make us a competitive league 1 side next season. -
Home form 2025; W 2 D 6 L12 Not scored a single goal in 9 home games out of 20. Lost to Oxford twice at home in 2025, as well as a certain other club. One of those wins was on New Years Day, the other was way back in April. I think it's fair to say as Wednesday fans, the year 2025 can't end soon enough....

Good work rate and stamina, but seems to run with the ball into the corners, slow down and then lose the ball. We've had far worse though....

1) 2 Utd players went down injured, near the touchline. In the old days, they would have had treatment off the pitch. Instead, everyone has a chat and a drink for 5 minutes. 2) On field love in's after the game, especially when losing, annoy me. I think Newcastle started this. Looking solemnly up to the stands for a good 5 minutes, while slowly clapping. We've lost, let's have a quick clap and get off ffs. 3) The fans and players going mad after what was barely even a foul. Again, game stops for a few minutes. 4) Keepers moving the ball from one side of the 6 yard box to the other, very slowly. 5) Goal celebrations. When did they become an artform? 6) Coaching staff and subs entering the field of play, especially after a goal. Ridiculous.

Promotion isn't on the agenda currently, but that could change. League 1 is a very tough league, ask Luton Town.
-
I don't think we'll be promotion contenders next season. I look at Luton this season, who should be right up there, with their budget. I think next year is all about stabilising. Play offs at best. I could be wrong, who can read this club....

Barry bannan the steel derby magician
WimJunk replied to Luke's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Look, Bannan is with us because he's a decent championship footballer. If a premier league side had wanted him, he'd have been off years ago. We all would. He's now old and being asked to play every game, with a bandage on his knee. He wants time on the ball and the opposition realise this and stop it. It's quite simple really. -
Barry bannan the steel derby magician
WimJunk replied to Luke's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
If you do a pressing game on Bannan, at almost 36, it's generally going to work, especially if the guys doing the pressing are early 20's and athletic. -
His biggest asset is his size and speed when coming off his line to block, usually when one of our defenders messes up. He's a bit slow getting down to low shots, but he's got more to move than Charles.
-
He's in contract until 2028, probably on big wages. Hopefully, he can be an asset for us in league one, because he isn't going anywhere short term.
-
I think he could be a half decent box player in a decent team. Ask him to do stuff around the half way line, it's just not going to work.
-
It's not really Ugbo's fault. We looked at his loan spell and paid a fair bit of money, by our standards. We should have looked at his overall, patchy, journeyman career.
-
I think he would lose the ball a lot in central midfield and get outmuscled. Just my opinion.

Players had a chance to thank the fans on Sunday
WimJunk replied to A47Owl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Some people thought that once Chansiri left, the players would somehow increase their footballing ability. I'm not sure that's how it works -
They pressed so hard and high on us, that we went back to the keeper a lot. Not ideal.
-
He has the hardest job in football, currently. He was a bit unlucky with the 3rd goal. Those slight deflections are worse than the big ones, sometimes.
