the beeb have wanted to change it from a person linked to the show as it always has been. they think lineker got too big for his boots and was bigger than the show. he wasn't. people like continuity on tv, you are inviting someone in to your living room to talk about your favourite sport. like many other things, blue sky thinking, squaring the circle and thinking outside the box have got in the way of just actually producing a great show. give it two years, unless they change the format back and it will be a fond memory like grandstand ad world of sport.

Around about this time I usually do a knockout prediction competition for the forum. I'm thinking of changing it up to be more like the Champions League format so that anyone who takes part gets at least 8 matches. This would need 36 responses from forum members to duplicate the UCL, but if I fall short of this number I will divide people taking part into groups like the old Champions league. In the unlikely event we get more there will have to be a randomly selected qualifying round to join the 36. So top 8 in the league go through to round of 16 9-24 playoff to join them 25+ go off and revise their knowledge of european football leagues... With England hosting Wales this evening is there anybody else apart from me miss the Home Championship? I totally acknowledge the point about fixture congestion but would love to see this return in a new format played over 2 seasons using the current friendly slots available.

As always, I’m just happy that we are fulfilling our fixtures as it looked like we might not have be able to do that early on. I would love us to get a result, even a point will do but just can’t see it. Conversely, the worse we do the better it is. If we were to have another miracle recovery it may give hope to dc and think he has found a way to run a club on a shoestring

It feels like the only numbers we are worried about tonight is the attendance figure. the score is almost irrelevant tonight, we have no expectations due to our squad and injuries. for me, I’d like to see anything under 10,000, and the further below that the better. in a normal season there would be 25k+ for a dirty Leeds match in a midweek cup match, to see a fraction of that would be a real message to he who shall not be named.
