SWFC v PNE Player ratings
Screen Door Slams replied to Owlabroad2001's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Horvath - 6 - Couple of decent saves but poor for second goal Valery - 7 - Played well , think DR may well try to tempt away in January. Otegbayo - 5 - Overall a little better than previous but awful for second goal, leaves his man to chase ball, gets nowhere near it and then sees the man he left have a simple nod in. Palmer - 7 - Much better than last week. Fusire - 5 - Thought he struggled for the most part. Ingelsson - 7 - Been crying out for months to play him deeper and he looked better for it. Bannan - 8 - Back to controlling things, impressive performance. Amass - 7 - Excellent first half but faded second due to us having to play him every game I would think. J.Lowe - 7 - Some really good link up play yesterday but sadly still offered no goal threat. Cadamarteri - 5 - As much as we all wish it were so I don`t think he has the skillset to make it at this level. Physically strong and no problem with his endeavour, but his first touch is quite often poor and his reading of the game/ positioning is lacking also....for once we had several excellent crosses flashed across the box and as main striker he should have been in there but was stood outside the area. He is coming up to 21 now so there is still time to improve and i really hope he does as he seems a genuine lad but atm he looks more suited to league 1/2 and maybe in an ideal world that`s where he would be on loan. McNeill - 7.5 - His career in a nutshell. it was clear from little flashes here and there that the lad has ability and in the first 45 mins it was there for all to see, as well as workrate and desire. Second half saw him slip back to some sloppy passing and drifting out of the game as well as a poor penalty. The challenge for the lad is to make that first half the norm not the exception. Cooper - 7 - Looked more solid straight away Redmond - 6.5 A few nice moments. Much, much better but our weak and soft underbelly does for us time and again. -
Fight on the Kop (vs preston)
Screen Door Slams replied to rekkers's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Was on a weekend away last month with some old mates and we were chatting to a barman and said we had noticed more two hattish behaviour than normal, "aye" he said, "usually they just stumble home when drunk but that crap they are shoving up their noses sends them crackers" -
Next v Preston. What Team would you START with?

Horvath Valery Cooper Iorfa M. Lowe Bannan Ingelsson Amass McNeil Redmond J. Lowe -
Don`t underestimate the damage last Sunday did...................we can handle losing...we`re Wednesday FFS , but to roll over and have your belly tickled, literally and tactically, in a game that mattered more than most will have left a bad taste for many.

We all get the bigger picture but we are not the dog and duck FFS. We have an, albeit, small squad of professionals on a minimum 4 figure a week salary , which includes at least 8 former or current full internationals....................so whilst the cards are stacked hugely against us I still expect endeavour and a an acceptable level of ability.

I`ve left it until now cus I was beyond angry at full tine Horvath - 5 One decent save but IMHO could have done better for the first two goals Palmer - 3 Passing was awful . and his half hearted wave of the leg for the third summed up his display Iorfa - 3 Be interesting to see how bad his "injury" is......... J. Lowe - 4 Poor Fusire - 3 Poor lad is way out of his depth Bannan - 4 Pains me to say this cus i LOVE this guy but I have yet to see him play well against the blunts...normally he is busy as f**k and demanding the ball but every time we play these f*** ers he seems to disappear. Valery - 4 At least he had an excuse having played 90 mins against brazil in mid week. Amass - 7 Played really well first half , but tbf the way we collapsed 2nd half must make him think WTF am i doing here. Ingelsson - 4 Full of endeavour as always but by God his touch today was like a maintenance fitter. Ugbo - 2 He couldn`t get in f**ckin Worksop`s XI...pitiful. J., Lowe - 4 Worked really hard but for the love of God I won`t miss him casually giving hard earned possession away with a casual flick of the ball. Cooper - 7 Looked decent all things considered. Cadamarteri - 4 Little impact McNeill - 3 Altrincham bound. I have left it till now cus I was so fuming earlier I may well have been banned from the site !!!! We all know the reason we are in such dire trouble but I can`t stay silent about today , even allowing for the mess he left us in Yes they have better players , yes our squad is severely lacking in quality......but correct me if me am wrong, but we had 11 players out there who are on a minimum of 4 figures a week salary. yet seem incapable of passing a ball 10 yards or possessing a first touch that a Sunday morning player would be happy with. To surrender so meekly is unforgivable .....and i mean that...Jeff Johnson, Carlton Palmer, Gary Shelton etc. must have been cringing at how we allowed a greasy haired little ****** like Peck act the " big un" and control the middle of the park. HP has had a sh*t hand but if that is how onw of his teams approaches a big game then it bodes far from well. Severely p***ed off at how meek, weak, and sh*t we were.

Watching Ugbo trying to make the ball stick is fu**in painful..........Fusire`s first touch is awful.........Iorfa is a six foot plus marshmellow , Bazza looks like he is hiding and we get one chance to put ball in the box and take a fu**in short corner. Apart from that i thought we did ok ......................cant believe we are still in it , stop fu***n about and play the percentages FFS.

All gone a bit quiet on this hasn`t it. With just one more allowed I`m guessing Watmore and Redmonds injury records are putting HP off.

Most exciting players (mavericks)
Screen Door Slams replied to WimJunk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Looking back over the leagues in general, not just Wednesday, then the 70,s was the golden era for mavericks. Rodney Marsh, George Best, Duncan McKenzie, Stan Bowles, Tony Currie, Alan Hudson, Peter Osgood, Frank Worthington, Charlie George, Robin Friday etc etc Used to love watching all these but If any player did today what any of these guys did in their prime , there would be whining and bitching galore form fans and pundits alike saying they were "disrespectful". Probably my favourite maverick from this era was a German International called Gunther Netzer......a man who once brought himself on as sub in a cup final to score the winner. Even later as a pundit he was the same.....in an argument during a world cup game in 2012 between England and Germany he sniped back at a fellow pundit " I am a football aesthete..........................you`re just chaff" -
On the road with football’s new old boys’ network
Screen Door Slams replied to Oliver's topic in General Football Chat
been to a few of theses down the years.................my hero Shez was good value for money as was ex Liverpool defender Tommy Smith. The worse by a country mile was a mumbling disinterested Bruce Grobbelar who bored everyone so rigid they all started talking amongst themselves. Best one was in the early 80,s at the (I think) Arundel WMC on city road with Big Jack, Brian Clough and Danny Bergara. -
This x 1000...............................we must be the only club in England where a 4 week injury ALWAYS takes a minimum of 10 weeks to put right.

Video- MORE PROBLEMS FOR CHALOBAH
Screen Door Slams replied to punkyhorrors's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
In the same summer that "ambition free" Brentford signed Watkins we signed George Boyd. -
I agree.........one of the few blemishes on Big Jack`s time with us was that he wouldn`t / couldn`t utilise Wylde`s ability into his team format. He was my second Wednesday hero (first was Tommy Craig) and was a gifted player. A supremely confident lad, even bordering on arrogant at times. Not the quickest but had a lovely first touch, a good scoring record and a sleekiness and slinkiness to his game that really caught the eye.....not making direct comparisons but for those too young to have seen him he was a Berbatov / Sheringham type player and I remember during the Arsenal FA cup marathon when their manager Terry Neill raved about him saying he should be playing at a much higher level.

Horvath: - 8 Parried one shot straight back and one silly free kick , otherwise did very well. Palmer: - 7 Worked really hard, missed a good chance. Iorfa: - 8 His best display for quite some time. M. Lowe: - 7.5 Calm and assured for the most part. Fusire: - 6.5 fair play to the lad , I thought he showed next to nothing as a midfielder but making a better fist of this position. Amass: - 7 The consistency of his performances for one so young is impressive. Valery: - 7.5 Played well again in this new role. Bannan: - 7 Clearly not fully fit but never stops. Ingelsson: - 5.5 Two poor displays on the bounce, looks desperately in need of a rest, though I dont think the position HP is asking him to play is doing him any favours. J. Lowe: - 5 Poor Ugbo: - 4 Really poor. McNeill: - 5 Offered little Cadamarteri: - 4 offered nowt. Fernandes: N/A An awful game to watch , WBA had several decent chances first half but we edged the second half. It`s so difficult to get a foothold in the game when nothing sticks to your strikers, Ugbo and Lowe were so weak the ball just kept coming back. As I said, I wish HP would put Ingelsson into a proper midfield 3 where his physicality would be useful and let Amass offer the width. Overall a battling point but we look dead on our feet.....one thing that never seems to improve is our injury recovery , we were told that Chalobah and kobacki would be ready after the last international break....they look like still being out for the next one !!!
