I've always gone on my own since my Dad passed on; I sit next to another "singleton". A lady directly in front of me comes alone, as does another lady directly across the aisle and, strangely enough, we all get along well. Perhaps we should have a "singles section" as well as a "singing stand"? Or perhaps fans could have an option to sit where they prefer? Roll on the introduction of a standing area! I also go to the Steelers, Lyceum and Crucible, none of which seem to have a problem in welcoming singles.

Kris, I have an idea for a fund raising event, but it would need to be at Hillsborough at the weekend of the next international break and would take some organisational and communication skills. Don't want to clog your find-a-buyer system, is there another contact method or should I contact a Club employee?

Open Training Session at Hillsborough

Just a reminder - presumably the open bars are for cashless sales only, as per usual? Hopefully the collection bins are for cash only, wouldn't want me to be using my card in the wrong place!! -
Sad News but ............
Swingin' Sixties replied to keefdave's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Are people misreading the news? The current owners of the SPEEDWAY CLUB have put their business up for sale. As with SWFC, the Tigers don't own the premises, so all they have is a going concern that has a great reputation in sport in general, speedway in particular, and has a strong fanbase enjoying strong and positive communication between the fans and the brilliant owners, who have overseen the many trophy wins in recent times. I wonder if Mr Shaw will be interested? He is already well in at the Trigger Hub Sheffield Steelers, another club with a brilliant, committed owner, and could see a good addition to his "Sheffield Sporting Investments" as opposed to the shambolic football club that he could have suffered. In any case, the stadium area is much too small for the requirements of a forward-looking professional football club ...... Oh, wait!! -
I cancelled my DD a couple of months ago. I noticed week 39 results on Club website but not seen previous displayed for a while now.

Protest in London on September 4th
Swingin' Sixties replied to Wednesdayitewastaken's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Certainly don't want to dilute the London demo, which is a great idea and enables the Owls down there to get involved, but shouldn't we be doing something up here also? This could be our last birthday as a professional football club, so the event needs to be marked publicly with videos at both locations. Local MPs at both events, perhaps even some ex-players and celebrity fans? SCC councillors for the Hillsborough area should also be seen to represent their local businesses. -
The Independent Football Regulator
Swingin' Sixties replied to BIG D's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
How long will it take for the IFR to become active and effective? The holder of that position will be encouraged to make an impact asap; do you really think he will start with a provincial, struggling Championship Club destined for the third tier of English football? Our owner can make a couple of million each season by selling "potential" until we are in the nether reaches of Division 2 - why he would want to do that, I just don't know, but he could. If he had wanted to sell, then he has had several opportunities over the last few months. -
the "Trigger Hub" Sheffield Steelers reflects his partnership with a successful businessman (Tony Smith) and a well-run sporting organisation. I wonder if we see Mr Shaw next involved in Basketball, Speedway and/or Rugby League in Sheffield? There are worse investments around here, aren't there?

Document Signed With Bidder - Staton
Swingin' Sixties replied to McRightSide's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I hope for a positive outcome like 99.9% of OT but let's not forget that it has been reported that one potential buyer has withdrawn, due to our owner wanting to keep the stadium & training ground. Are the other buyers signing documents on that basis? Please Nnnoooo! I am not ITK, nor have any close knowledge of the situation, but I met an acquaintance yesterday who has connections at the ground; apparently there is a rumour circulating that DC has "sold" each individual stand to a different family member! Sounds extraordinary but can anyone put it past him to do such a thing? Also, I hear that part-time employees receive a small "retainer" fee in the close season, paid monthly. Usually about £30, this month at least one employee only received £5!! I can't vouch for the truth in either point but thought it interesting and perturbing. -
Best of luck to our brave Assistant Coach. He clearly knows who appointed him but, while this action was clearly necessary to get our pre-season on the move, I wonder if DC is plotting to sell a share of OUR Club to Mr Textor, providing funds while keeping some level of control? I have only learned of the Eagle Holdings Group having a minority (but important) share in Lyon & Palace; would a similar scenario suit both of them? Please, NNNNOOOOOO!!!!!

Protest monday at Hillsborough
Swingin' Sixties replied to owltillidie's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I am away on hols so will miss Monday & Thursday at Wadsley Bridge. I will join any action that is legal & ethical and that shows the protesters in a positive light. I will not become an official member of any group because of the few raving, foul-mouthed idiots who bring our cause into disrepute. One suggestion, what about picketing the store and the bridge, not to harass visitors but just to publicise our aims? This requires few people on shifts of a couple of hours each and keeps our activities in the public eye. -
Announced today that Triggerhub Sheffield Steelers is the new name for the Elite Ice Hockey team (also applying to the Steeldogs). Agreement for 3 seasons. Tony Smith, owner of both teams, is a smart businessman and I am sure he would not be taken in by any smooth talk. C'mon DC, wake up man!!

I believe (please correct me if wrong) that all the catering bars pay a season-long rental to the Club and then take all the revenue; so not buying refreshments is hurting individual businesses and the minimum-waged employees, not the Club or its owner. Having been the third generation of Wednesdayite from as early as 1952, I doubt that I shall be marching from the city centre but I shall certainly be supporting it from Hillsborough Park. I will approve of any actions that are legal and ethical but totally distance myself from those who think that waving flags with disgusting, insulting expletives presents an image that will help to increase support for the cause; the opposite will be the result and provide additional ammunition for our owner to use on one of his epic statements. Think smart!

Where would you like to see that swfc.co.uk have the correct time and date for a match in which they are expected to participate?? I expect ticket news will be published once the two clubs have agreed on prices. Just 14 days to go, that is if the official site is correct!

Beadle named in England U21 squad

Looking forward to the match on Friday 6th September with Northern Ireland - could our Club be represented in both goals at the same time?? -
It's stuff like this that shows chansiri is clueless
Swingin' Sixties replied to Luke's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
My 5 minute research on the Club official site shows the prices for the complete season, Every part of the home areas for every category shows discounts for both armrd forces and students. For the QPR game, however, there are obviously data errors since those categories are £10 HIGHER than the adult rate. The ticket office needs to be aware of the errors & if you are a student, just let them know. I am sure DC has not made the error himself!! -
Worksop Town v SWFC U21 - Who's going?
Swingin' Sixties replied to Busted flush's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
You probably missed the official announcements as they were so early. I do not have the exact date for the Worksop game but, on the 5th June, swfc announced the fixture at Ossett, also mentioning the previously arranged games at Scarborough and Worksop. Andy H was credited on the site for arranging these. In case you also missed an early bulletin, 8 of our youngsters signed new contracts (photo included on that item) The complete season's league fixtures for U-21s & U-18s are also on the website. -
I have no feelings either way about should we or shouldn't we sign him but it will be interesting to watch his progress playing in our style. He obviously trained well at WBA otherwise he would not have been in the match day squad week after week (33 appearances + guess he was sometimes an unused sub?). The available data has also impressed our coaching team in some way. If we were spending money on a transfer fee I would probably be against the move but for what should be a "small" signing-on fee + wages in line with our normal pay structure, it looks OK. The midfield needs another high-energy player + Shipston to be complete.

Just looked on Brighouse web site, no mention of us so may have dreamt that one. Also, and I am not suggesting you need this, but I know the Club has some ways of helping genuine supporters to attend some games. Reviewing options on the website may supply the answer, alternatively the Community Programme may be able to give advice.

Our U-21s have announced the two fixtures so far, both were on the Club's site but now some way down the list of news, I suspect. Scarborough Athletic away Saturday 27th July ko 3-00pm Tuesday 30th July at Worksop Town ko 7-45pm suspect may be a mix U-21s & 18s) I also saw one at Brighouse Town but can't find it now. You will also be interested in Liam Palmer's testimonial on Saturday 3rd August (believe 1-00pm ko, admission prices not yet published but should be very reasonable?

Will be interesting at Alfreton to see who plays where and for how long. Johnson. Valery, Valentin. Lowe (M), Palmer. Reed and Shipston can all, I believe, play midfield (some not yet tried at 2nd tier level) so we already have options. Reed has been told he is with the first team squad "until told otherwise". He is a good full back and has also played midfield for the U-21s, Several of the new signings are good players in more than one position.

Our lack of recruitment activity thus far
Swingin' Sixties replied to shandypants's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Of the 21 Championship transfers so far, we have been involved in 4 (3 in, 1 out). Just think how posters are reacting on other sites where their clubs have still to begin! While Burnley have spent over £20m on two players and Coventry a similar amount, we clubs with very little money are having to compete in the street market. Hope that some of the posters on this thread are not the ones who say they won't put another penny into the club. I want new responsible owners in asap, until then we have to do the best we can at our level but with the added bonus of a top class coaching team and some decent Championship-level players. -
Our lack of recruitment activity thus far
Swingin' Sixties replied to shandypants's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
So, The Star reporting that there have been 21 completed transfers in the championship as of the 21st June; we have 4 of them (including Vaulks leaving). Coventry signed a couple of big money players, most of others are "free". -
I don't know if the "4 medicals" story is true or not but questions include; Why done in Leeds? Normally done at Claremont, or occasionally Thornbury, here in Sheffield. 4 players but not introduced to each other? Surely a Club rep would have driven them there and it would have been good to get the players to mingle? Presumably the info has come, directly or indirectly, from one of these players, surely they must have swapped first names if nothing else? Max Lowe was announced on the day of his medical, I believe, so why not the others, as the contracts would have been agreed "subject to medical"? Answers please?
