  1. Oxford just beat Bristol City away - this is a very competitive division. They play United next. I've got Oxford, Derby, Blackburn, Hull, Portsmouth and Millwall in the relegation mix this year and our results against them will be crucial. As will the two Derbies, surprisingly. Our form might not be as bad as it looks as we've lost to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 10th teams in the league so far.
  2. Where's here? I'm in Australia. It was shown down under on Binge and Foxtel last month. Now on BBC2 in the UK
  3. The novel Mix Tape that it's based on was set in Sheffield in 1979
  4. They are heady stats - amazed we can sign him
  5. Does he know why they let him go...should be at the peak of his powers and played most of the games the last two seasons?
  6. At the start of the year I said I'd be happy with 12th if Danny was still with us next year. That still stands. We are massively over-achieving with this squad and it's because of top class coaching, aligned with terrific team bonding and commitment from every player that has generated an enthusiasm from the supporter base that has helped in so many games. All that falls away if Danny leaves and especially if he leaves with bad blood. If DR is still here next year we can take another giant stride. Stability is the key to gradual improvement because if we have to start again wth no Danny and a financial eunuch remaining as Chairman, it's going to be a shambles.
  7. We're not getting promoted under Chansiri - Danny's worked a minor miracle so far but promotion is not realistic with this squad and Chansiri has no money to significantly improve it
  8. We don't have any money so it will be loans and maybe an out of contract player or two. Danny must know for sure by now Chansiri blew Daddy's money five years ago and there's no more. Not this year, or next year or ever with him as Chair. We need new ownership or Danny will be gone next year: he's working with his hands tied behind his back and it's not sustainable.
  9. Still 17 points from relative safety - that's how I'm looking at it. This squad has massively over achieved because of the management. We lack class though and Lord knows how we'll ever buy it under this skint Chairman.
  10. How much older are you that you're more tollerant (sic) - 12?
  11. Someone asked pre-season if we'd take 12th before a ball is kicked and I was one of the few who said Yes, as long as Danny remains our manager. Twelfth place will stabilise the club and give Danny the chance to add to what he's built. We don't have to money to buy exceptional players who might rush us to the Premiership. If it's going to happen it will be with strengthening the organisation at every level, maintaining unity and backing Danny to deliver a highly, motivated team, excellently conditioned and prepared to compete with the best in the league.
  12. He's lost 20 of his 50 games in charge!? Time to get shut and bring in a younger, more innovative, motivational manager with better analysis skills. And shorter.
  13. He's not working hard enough. While Shea Charles, who has played three full games in the week burst forward from well inside his own half to score the winner yesterday - Ugbo, who hasn't played a full 90 minutes all week, jogs on and doesn't put himself in a position to score. He's cruising and needs to challenge himself
  14. Roger Wylde - not Stan Bowles, Duncan McKenzie or even Tony Currie, but our own Wednesday Wizard in the dark ages of the mid-70s. His overall career stats were pretty impressive.
  15. I put $25 on at 25/1 for us to win the league just because it's not impossible but I won't be spending the money in advance. I've followed Wednesday since the 1966 Cup Final and we have never won a league in that time. Last time we won a league was in the 50's, so we're chuffing overdue!
  16. Jeez - got chills, and not good ones, reading that team list and subs
  17. From early October when Danny was appointed we scored 50 pts in 35 games. That's 1.43pts per game. It took him a while to implement his systems and our record improved to 31pts in the last 20 games for 1.55pts per game. We have improved the squad significantly and had a superb pre-season. There are 10 players who have played in the miracles of the last two seasons; belief is strong, optimism is high, camaraderie is everywhere and there are few holes left to fill in our football structures. I predict 79 points or 1.72 per game. PS: Also had $20 on at $26 for winning the league!
  18. Ins and Outs from players we had at the end of last season on our list: Chalobah - M Diaby J Lowe - Gregory Hamer - Dawson Valery - Delgado M Lowe - James Ingelsson - Vaulks Shipston - Hendrick Kobacki - Poveda McNeil – Fletcher Fusire - Pedersen No replacements as yet for loanees Byers, Brennan and Bakinson We've done well to resign Beadle, Bannon, Palmer, Pato, Bernard, Iorfa, Windass and Ugbo and do look stronger - but still need three decent loan signings, for me, In defence, midfield and attack
  19. £350k - and we shouldn't be giving them a penny more to take him.
  20. Those were dark, dangerous days to be a football supporter. I'd just turned 14 and got a ticket in the South Stand because my mother was worried about me being on the Kop - she was right to be worried. The Kop was dominated by Man Utd fans; as it was a couple of other times that year with opposition supporters. I was on the Kop in March '75 when Millwall fans were there in big numbers coshing people with the 'Millwall Brick' and throwing full milk bottles at Wednesday fans. At the United game there was violence between fans before, during and after the game. There were masses of mounted police indiscriminately wielding batons; getting in some practise to take on the miners a decade later. My biggest memory is back at Pond Street Bus Station where Wednesday fans were badly outnumbered and some took a horrible pasting. Manure fans were hurling large chunks of concrete and one went straight through the back window of the bus I was on as we drove out. There was a breeze on me neck all the way to Elsecar. Funny that most of those violent barstools are over 70 now.
  21. Those who played for us last season but won't this season are: Dawson Bakinson Byers Brennan Hendrick Delgado Pedersen Vaulks James M Diaby Fletcher Those who might still play for us are: Buckley Poveda Ugbo New to the team: Hamer Valery M Lowe Chalobah Ingelssen Kobacki McNeil J Lowe
