SWFC V Preston North End, the Smith/Valentin Derby
striker replied to ReginaldD's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Miracles do happen, but it's almost a waste of time watching games at the minute, because we can't possibly be competitive. Of course we will try, the players bar the odd exception give everything, but the reality of an already decimated, unbalanced squad, not being able to change anything with subs and playing 3 games in a week will catch up with us, again. But, we all watch and we all hope, until that hope is extinguished. The interest today is whether Redmond gets a game and what he can offer, bearing in mind he's not kicked a ball for a year. I'd take a draw now. 1-1 would be nice, to see us score a goal. -
Completely agree, but this is the EFL we're talking about. I think admin helps our case, acts as a reset and also affords the mitigation of certain relegation.
-
I don't know TBH. Like you say, surely a deal to be done.
-
Good news. I'd be surprised if new owners weren't playing hardball over the fee restriction sanction. I get that it's the rules, but those rules exist, in part, to protect against rogue owners, which they clearly failed to do. The EFL don't need any more bad press around potential barriers to a sale being concluded. A suspended sanction would be a fair outcome.

You should feel ashamed... now more than ever !

These type of "fans' wouldn't be missed. If you know who they are, identify them to the club, so they can receive a banning order for Christmas. If you are one of those morons, just f*ck off somewhere else, a long way from Hillsborough. -
Inevitable really, substitutions are so important in the modern game and we've got nothing, to change a game, or even stay in it. That said, Horvath should have be coming to claim that, a hanging ball just outside his 6 yard box should be the GK's all day long.

Agree. Although, I've got a lot of time for Cademarteri, we've nothing else.

I'm late to the party this season, due to my boycott under the ex owner.

Mike Ashley makes £20 mil offer to buy club 🙄

Wed know what we were getting on the pitch, knows how to do enough for promotion. Ability to consolidate in the EPL would be a nice problem to have. There isn't much evidence of infrastructure investment though, which we desperately need. -
Not a particularly high quality game, but we've done well. Certainly been competitive and had a few chances. Looked organised for the most part, but my frustration is the lack of presence up front. That's no criticism of Cademarteri, rather lack of numbers up the pitch. It struck me tonight, that we've a lot of defensive players on the pitch. Hopefully, that can be addressed in January, because there's very little on the bench in that department.

One group wanted to merge with our neighbour’s!!??
striker replied to Bloxwich Owl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
This is why foreign ownership can be dangerous, when fundamentally not understanding the culture of football in this country. Rivalry, is what makes it so special. You can't just relocate or rebrand franchises or attempt to create conglomerates. -
It really does depend on the plans of our new owners and how quickly they want to accelerate matters on the pitch. IMO, he's a decent squad player and keep him for that purpose. Wouldn't necessarily be in my starting 11 in either league though.
-
Football can change very quickly, one season to another. With the calibre of new ownership we hope for, expect we will have the biggest budget in the league and a very good chance of promotion. It's not unusual for teams to undergo major squad rebuilds nowadays. We also have the rest of this season to prepare and plan, maybe look at some players in January, with next season in mind. That of courses subject to the fee sanctions being lifted/ suspended, which will be important.

More formal bids expected at SWFC today
striker replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
As much as I'd like to know who is buying us, far better to have multiple wealthy groups bidding, than have to accept another rogue owner, out of desperation. On that note, I need to keep reminding myself just how bad it was under the ex owner, seems much longer than just a month ago. Not long to go now. -
It's a difficult one, I personally wouldn't be keen to replace the manager. But, new ownership does often do that. I'd like to think we could give him a more competitive squad in January and lets see what he can do in the second half of the season, before making any decisions. At the minute, all he can do is scrape together a starting 11 based on who is fit, least fatigued. He has literally nothing on the bench apart from kids, many of whom, let's be fair, should be nowhere near the first team at this stage of their development.

Appreciate the update, the Administrators communication has been excellent, to be fair. They can deduct as many points as they want this season, the outcome was known before a ball was kicked. My focus is on December, who wins the auction process and what the future of our club will look like.
-
I'm open minded on the stadium, but considering reports suggest, only 1 (or 2) out of 11 (potential) bidders have engaged with the council on this subject, possibly suggests most would remain at Hillsborough. Notwithstanding, it would be a longer term project anyway. For me, the training ground needs more urgent action to relocate.
-
Communication has been superb from the Administrators, since day 1. They've done the basics of running a business very well. They've also maintained the profile of the club, advertising it exceptionally well and put much more effort into this aspect than I expected. I'm very optimistic they will find a deal with good owners, going forward.

Fantastic package. It's not difficult this running a fotbal club is it, just needs common sense.

Monthly Subscription Season Tickets
striker replied to Otley Owl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I've long advocated for this. Subscription based services are the norm and season tickets, seems rather analogue by comparison. People's sensitivity to cost varies. From my point of view, because I live a 3hr drive away, and can't attend every home game. Cost isn't the main impediment I'd be happy to pay the full season ticket price for a hybrid ticket. For, say £50-80 per month, If I could watch streamed content, games from the club, with the option to attend an agreed amount of games as and when, by selecting a seat in advance (subject to availability). I'd see that as value for money. -
Good news and sounds like they are keen to send more youth players our way. An useful relationship to have, with a top club. Let's hope they remember us next season when we are in L1

Interesting update from Paul Stanley
striker replied to Night King's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
By modest, I'm talking in relation to a billionaires wealth, or what an EPL club would spend, for example. Lots do do, but doesn't all have to be done at once and I suspect the total investment would be less that an EPL clubs value, should we be lucky enough to be promoted in the next 5 years. For arguments sake (I'm not suggesting this is what's needed or will be spent), but the reported £150m the ex owner wasted, would go an awful long way in the hands of a competent owner, with a plan -
Interesting update from Paul Stanley

Good interview. He's right in what he's saying about the club being scalable, one of the few at this level and particularly in our current price range. No wonder there has been significant interest. There is some work to be done, modest money to be spent, but we are a blank canvas and the upside of us being an established EPL club, in the future, is that we could be sustainable again at that level, which leads to a valuation, easily £300-£500m. It was also interesting to hear about squad rules and perhaps speaks to why more subs haven't been made. If playing time counts towards squad numbers and we are seeking to add free agents. Hopefully, we received positive news on adding to the squad and the bids start arriving in due course. -
Some may leave, but I also think a fair few will see the opportunity of new ownership, depending who it is, as something they want to be involved with. I don't begrudge anyone leaving, they've played their part this season when we needed them, but don't think it's certain there will be a mass exodus.
-
I'm optimistic about next season, if we can overturn or suspend the fee restriction sanction. There is no ongoing merit to this and any new owner would have a legitimate argument that administration supercedes this punishment. Also, able to hold as a bargaining chip to conclude a sale, if indeed all interested parties identified this as a restraint of trade issue, as they should. On a level playing field, without punitive sanctions, think we would have a successful season.
