Completely agree - far too often we don't have a plan and are boxed in or we throw direct to opponents. Other teams, actually have players moving, seen oppos face our player push his chest, spin and take possession from the thrower. Maintaining possession is so important, yet we give it away so easily.

We need a better keeper than Dawson, I suspect DR knows this and will bring in someone else on loan. He pushes too much out and fumbles on to many occasions. My biggest bugbear is he also doesn’t command his area, which gives confidence to the defence. I do try and be objective on this, he is an excellent shot stopper and penalty saver, really top drawer. He had a superb game yesterday too, I actually want him to succeed him being a local lad, but realistic to know he is probably not the long term answer for a progressive club.

Mmmm, i ‘get’ xg and appreciate the point you are making, but if an opposite team goes ahead do they then sit back and allow us the attack. It’s not about starting with more urgency imo. It’s that the improved fitness is now beginning to show late in games. we used to tire, we don’t now - unfortunately the likes of Gregory can’t play this way, so doesn’t play.

I remember Bruce (when managing Newcastle) saying we like what Murphy has been doing at Wednesday. Murphy said something about it clicking at Wednesday, he sorted his diet out and picked up the training and it all started to come together (not sure if it was due to Monk, but timescales would fit). mad that he was considered the worse between him and his twin brother. Full credit, love players who succeed through hard work and determination .

Yes I do think it is between us and Ipswich and that Plymouth will fall away. we undoubtedly have good strength in depth, what are Ipswich like from that perspective?

We have not beaten Shrewsbury at home ever, over 9 games. We need to win ugly against teams that make it difficult. yes we could have done better, but historically we don’t get three points against this type of side, but today, we bloody have!

The biggest single thing imo, is the signing of the 2 CBs in January, we were actually playing ok prior to that, but kept giving away silly goals. Honestly believe this post-Christmas team would be challenging for the title, if the season started then.

A little bit harsh imo, he started addressing some of the issues that we all could see and that side had half a fist at getting play-offs, before he left one bloody week before the season started (after the understanding that was afforded to him). He has also done it before at clubs, moving for Steve Bruce, then starts complaining when he gets stick (often through his son, who he now employs). He had a chance to build something here, there was a big Ron type of feel and we (mainly) were behind him, in the end he is a snake and deserves to lie in the bed he has made.

As he is creative I think we all thought that, but a couple of managers have tried him as a 10 or 'floater' and it has not really worked. Almost like he prefers to dictate from a bit deeper, where there is a bit more space.

Pretty much this, undoubted quality, but stature and his inability to get around the pitch (don't be fooled by his obligatory closing down of the keeper once per game), rule him out of being top class Championship. The downside of this is that you have to have other midfielders to accommodate this, hence Carlos, playing Lee and Hutch as more central mids. Don't get me wrong, still a superb player, seems to have a genuine affection for us and when he is on form (like the Cardiff game), he is capable of running a game, unlike most players.

Still be cheaper to get 2 halves though!

Watched the game, West Brom were really poor, point in second half where they didn’t even attempt to cover the overload on the right wing....shocked they didn’t manage to score. They have not scored more than once in a game since beating Chelsea 3-0 in the middle of July - that makes it very hard to get anything when you are not able to keep clean sheets either. Best hope for us is that Prince sacks him and replaces with a foreign unknown....

He says he hasn’t been sacked after 20 years, 911 games. Next question should have been, how many 14 game runs have you gone over that period without winning? looks like a man under pressure.

In small patches, have liked what I have seen. Perhaps needs that little bit more consistency. Got a good touch and looks to use it to push round his marker and set off attacks. Didn't Wigan pay 2m for him, so someone rated him. As others have said, the right package would probably be a good signing.

Rhodes needs a target man alongside him and (ideally) 2 wingers, as part of an attacking side. That is when he did his damage for Hudds and Blackburn. To me he looks shot as a player, have to say the Forest away game did make me question my thinking, but he couldn’t continue it and he did get a few games at that point. Move on, expensive mistake, great bloke, but not good enough anymore for champ football.
