Why is everyone getting their knickers in a twist?
Daz replied to shandypants's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Kris Wigfield 'We're optimistic because we've seen the level of bids coming in. These are going to mean we can fulfil our duties to hit 25 pence to the pound .' So if bidders lost out because they did not offer this level of bid, then some of them may squeal and prove they were not the right parties for us. If they want the club they had the choice to bid higher. Also note the plural... BIDS. Let the process play out - don't understand the concerns to be honest.- 66 replies

If our new owner had deep pockets and we were able to pay fees, if we are talking about buying young promising players with possible sell on value then we should at least be having a word with ManU about Amass. He will cost a lot, but he's the type of player who is only going to get better and can likely be sold for a lot more than we pay for him - and we can guarantee him first team football which he might not get so much at ManU.

How many other clubs in the 92 would get a 22,000 crowd on a cold November day, marooned at the bottom of the league on minus points and condemned to relegation, after 30 years of atrocious leadership and season after season of poor finishing positions hopping between the Championship and League 1? I doubt there would be many more than 8 in the entire leagues.

The penalty would not have mattered if the defenders had the ability to defend.

The penalty would not have mattered if the defenders had done their job. Abysmal defending for all 3 goals. -
We keep having to climb mountains due to always conceding far too many goals. A top priority to help change results and get more bums on seats has to be a couple of defenders. We've never replaced Loovens and we need a couple with his qualities.

Why does it seem that almost every goal conceded is, according to numerous posters, a mistake by the keeper? We've done it to every goalkeeper who wears the shirt and hounded a number of them out of the club, some of them young and learning their trade. I think they are judged harshly and subjectively, like he was too slow going down, or should have come for this or for that etc. It's like a ball a keeper saves from 6 yards out and saying he should have pushed it wide - they are not robots - and guess what, every team concedes goals every season. I get it if they palm it into their net or run out of the goal and get stranded, or do a hospital pass or drop the ball on to an attackers toes, or let it slip through their grasp - but the game is so quick and as fans we can't see who is blocking their view or even the curve or movement of the ball in the air. As for Hovath he's made some fantastic saves to prevent goals and conceding is not that easy to stop with the way we defend. -
Potentially a new stadium,i really hope not

Interesting video, glad I watched it. I hope the new owner doesn't want to sit in the past and get left behind by an increasing number of clubs who are doing the kind of things that Zaragoza plan to do. -

westy - you sum it up perfectly. I know change is difficult for many and I know that history is cherished. But it will hold us back while other clubs leave us in their trail. If you take the total revenues of Premier League clubs at £6.9 billion, £1 billion was ticket sales, and £3.5 billion was broadcast fees, leaving £2.4 billion for commercial revenue. So that commercial revenue represents more than a third of overall revenue and an average of £120m per club (that alone is about 5 times our total revenues). SWFC commercial revenue was £8m, obviously affected by not being in the Premier League, but also impacted by our poor facilities, location, car parking availability and other space restrictions. Assuming our new owners are ambitious and have deep pockets, we are at a crossroads as fans as to whether we want to catch up those clubs who were similar to us in the 70's to 90's (Chelsea, Man C, West Ham, Newcastle) or boo when we can't compete with them or lesser teams while they can afford better squads and keep turning us over. I would argue a new stadium is essential if we have any ambition, AND we can ensure that an architect can combine our rich history with fantastic facilities in any design. -
Question - how many people have taken up the offer?

I like that tactic - if you can put up with her at football, at least she's not hammering your credit card doing Christmas shopping -
One group wanted to merge with our neighbour’s!!??

One million percent - the franchise mentality. I have no problem with American owners, they have some great commercial nouse, but they have to understand our football culture. -
In an ironic way, this says to investors that when it is and has been dogger at home this whole calendar year, and even though those fans walk out early, despite the dross, those same fans turn up to the next game. So an investor will be imagining what could happen if they gave us all something to cheer.

I'd add to that they closed all of our players down continuously and disrupted anything we tried to do. They were breathing down our necks throughout the whole game - they did to us what I was hoping we would do to them. The disappointing thing is we changed nothing and had no answer.

You should join London Owls if you're not already a member - they do a great job and you can meet so many more fans!
