I think it’s a case of Röhl withdrawing and saving face as it looks as though Muscat will be appointed

If Röhl gets the Glasgow Rangers job
Liam_Baggies replied to danblakemore's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Hahaha Its a bit of nonsense post really because there's never been a point on this forum where I haven't commended Röhl or said he wasn't very good - both on here and on our Rangers forum I have referred to him as being my manager of the season twice. I have commented on Röhl not being the right man for Rangers for a number of reasons; 1. Because his spell in management is such a small sample size 2. Because he hasn't managed a club with the demand and weight of expectation that is at Rangers 3. Because the football club at this present time does not require a project/philosophy based manager 4. Because the appointment of Röhl should have been done in the summer if he was going to be considered, not be appointed after that pillock. I am also concerned/surprised that no other club be that Saints, Leicester, WBA, Norwich, Bristol City or a club from abroad has taken a chance on him. I don't think any of them are unrealistic concerns no matter how much you wanna be a sarcastic Simon about it -
I think there's an awful lot of rewriting of history around Gerrard's time at Rangers His tenure was an resounding success - despite one trophy in nine which I think is a harsh stick to beat him with. He picked up a disorganised rabble, with no assets who were at rock bottom and in the space of 3 years had won the league achieving the invincible, prevented 10IAR and at the time of his departure had Rangers four points clear as we went for title 56 with one defeat in their previous 56 games. He also made Rangers respectable again in Europe with only 8 defeats across his 51 European games. He left Rangers with several assets who were then sold for big money with a team across the city petrified of him. He won 7 out of 12 against them and flipped the dominance. He should have won the treble the year Rangers won the league. The two cup defeats were poor showings in a season of brilliance.

I don’t need the reminder of that! Röhl in the summer is a passable appointment. But Röhl - with his limited spell in management - following that utter pillock is not the appointment needed right now. -

Rangers are - but the two situations between Wednesday and Rangers are vastly different, as you well know. -

He clearly wanted that Saints job when it came out around 12 months ago after they sacked Martin (understandably so too) only for the release clause to be the stumbling block It was then reported that he was at "loggerheads" with the club because they wouldn't reduce his release clause (quite rightly too) We then had the hokey-cokey in the summer And then we also had his comments about the bundesliga and the premier league and "being very excited about what happens this summer" Not that I blame him for wanting to get away from the maniac, but it was clear he wanted away Despite that neither Saints nor Leicester fancied appointing him - and nor has he got that PL or Bundesliga job.. yet. -

Not decrying the job he did at the Wednesday - his initial trajectory could only be up from the position he found the club and he did well to sustain that amongst the crap from Chansiri But it’s a very limited sample pool and I am cautious that views of Röhl are slightly biased due to him being a bright spark in what has been a miserable few years due to the owner. Had his CV included spells at other clubs where he’s had success then fair dos but there’s nothing other than Wednesday and nobody has been brave enough to take a punt. The time to appoint him was the summer - not now. There is no honeymoon period, there is no patience. It’s hit the ground running by winning now. Rangers record of recruiting from the championship has been abysmal too which only adds to the trepidation. -

It was - manager of the season in my view. But it’s a very different beast isn’t it? Fire-fighting in the back drop of a ****show is very different to the demands and expectations at Rangers. Ive no doubt Röhl will prove himself in time - but the timing of the rangers job now will be a disaster that ends in tears. -

His managerial career is worse than Martins. It consists of keeping Wednesday up. That’s it. He has pimped himself out for nigh on 12 months and still no one has taken a punt on him. There is nothing about his record that suggest he will cope with the pressure or expectation at Rangers. It will end in tears. -
Gerrard has literally pimped himself for this role as well. Wtf are they doing? Absolutely gutted.
-
It looks that way. An appointment the majority of the fan base will get behind. I’m chuffed Will make the journey up north in a few weeks much sweeter
-
There is no probably about it. You have to hit the ground running. The only project at Rangers is to win every week. As soon as the board and players realise that the better.

I think Thelwell is a massive problem - he's appointed his mates from Everton and the appointment of his son absolutely reeks and don't get me started on the signing of Chermitti. There is nothing innovative about his approach at all - its just hoovering up crap from England. There's no data analytics, there's no money ball approach and its over priced crap too. I am not seeing a modernised approach from him at all and nor is there any long term strategic planning. The bigger worry is that is that Patrick Stewart is equally useless. Two of the worst ran clubs in the PL have been Man United and Everton and unbelievably we've appointed the CEO of one and the technical director of the other.
-
No, he's not - but then again I'm not sure Martin has particularly helped. There is a typical english arrogance where they reckon they can just hoover up players from the championship, thinking they will find it a cakewalk in Scotland but time after time again they get found out because they can not meet the consistency, demands or expectation of this club. Gassama has been the shining light this season but he'll be much more effective when we get the ball quicker to him. Far too often he's found himself surrounded by three or four players because the way in which we've moved the ball has been slow and cumbersome.
-
I think it has to be either Muscat or Gerrard but I wouldn't be surprised if Thelwell opted for Dyche given they worked together at Everton. Its not an appointment for ideologues or novices to work on projects which rules Röhl out for me. It has to be a figure head who is capable of raising the ever decreasing standards and a desire to win. Win at all costs. The two stand outs there are Muscat and Gerrard for me. He is without doubt though the worst manager I've seen at Rangers - not even PLG was this bad.
-
No.
-
He’s been sacked
-
He’s gone tonight apparently. What a god awful, miserable experiment this has been
-
Terrible news. His role at Wednesday should never be under estimated RIP Milan
