Sheffield Wednesday can confirm that the FA have begun an inquiry into objects thrown towards the field of play during Sunday’s Steel City derby.
Given it is not the first time such actions have compromised the good name of our club, we reiterate in the strongest possible tone that this behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
The safety of everyone inside the stadium – players, match officials, all staff and supporters – remains paramount.
Working alongside South Yorkshire Police and with the aid of enhanced CCTV imagery, we are currently in the process of identifying those responsible.
Anyone proven to have perpetrated such an act will face the maximum possible sanctions in line with EFL Ground Regulations, the club’s Supporter Conduct Policy and the law.
We must emphasise that the vast majority in attendance at Hillsborough for the derby conducted themselves impeccably - but the behaviour of the tiny minority leaves the club open to potential financial sanctions at this extremely vulnerable time.
Our matchday operation includes the Report an Incident service for use in real time to ensure Hillsborough hosts the safest possible environment.
Please text 07526 166907 if you see any incident of concern on matchday, or have any information you may wish to report relating to last Sunday.
Alternatively, email operationenquiries@swfc.co.uk
All correspondence will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
Together, we can and will, stamp it out.
Thank you for your cooperation.
As a long time fan and supporter I really hope they find the people responsible and ban them for life, we don’t need idiots like that at our club.
