  1. I think he's got a decent career ahead of him at League 1 level, perhaps even Championship level at the right club. I don't think we're the right club though, which is a pity what with him being being a local lad who came through the academy. There seems to be a confidence issue when he plays for us, and one mistake and the pressure will be right on again from some sections of the fanbase (imagine if he'd made even half the errors BPF has made this season? He'd have been chased out of town by now). I do think he has been mismanaged and unfortunately made a scapegoat - the whole Westwood saga going off in the background probably hasn't helped. Glad he's doing well at Exeter, but one of those situations where it's probably best if both parties move on.
  2. Not Wildsmith’s biggest fan, but blaming him for either goal is a bit of a stretch
  3. Alternatively Bannan starts and we fail to get a second goal due to our build-up play becoming much slower? Look - in terms of ability, Bannan is the probably the best player in the squad. Few players at this level possess his range of passing. But his tendency to sit deep and dictate a slow tempo is at times absolutely infuriating, and probably the main reason why despite all plaudits showered on him by pundits and fans, no other club has shown any real interest in signing him.
  4. Don’t forget the Belarusian legend, Maxim Tsigalko!
  5. We’re too slow at attacking teams. This has been a problem all season. Too much sideways passing, too much possession in non-threatening areas. This has its place and is fine to slow the game down when you’re leading, but there needs to be more forward thinking when the game is in the balance
  6. Midfield is too lightweight without Luongo or Adeniran
  7. Best player at the club, and was such a massive loss last season. I do worry that someone will come in for him in the January transfer window though.
  8. Green, Johnson and Wing have got to get a lot closer to Kamberi and start trying to break the lines. Bannan needs to play 30 yards higher up the pitch. He’s got the ability to take this division by the scruff of the neck but this is really him at worst, sat in front the back 4 playing Hollywood balls to no one like a crap Andrea Pirlo
  9. I thought from an attacking perspective we were awful against Charlton, and so far this isn’t good enough against Doncaster. 4-3-3 at times feel too much like a 4-5-1, with a target man who looks like he’s better at playing with his back to goal. Midfield offering nowhere near enough support and we desperately need someone to play on the shoulder of the last defender. I know it’s early days in the season, but this is concerning
  10. Yep. This is very similar to the team that beat Barnsley and Cardiff, and only narrowly lost away to an in-form promotion bound Watford due to a controversial ref decision. I can’t understand why the management team decided to give up on this lineup after the 4-1 defeat to QPR. Because while on paper it looks like a thrashing, in reality it was a pretty freak score line on the balance of play - we probably created as much as we did against Cardiff but missed the lot, and the keeper gifted them two very soft goals. But we created lots of chances - and we’ve looked nowhere near as fluent going forward since that game.
  11. Bolton have won almost every game that he’s started! Maybe not got the legs for the Championship anymore, but still far too good to be playing at L2 level
  12. Pelupessy has been fantastic Norwich are masters at turning games around in the second half... gonna be a tough 45
  13. The Hull game annoyed me more than the Huddersfield game. The Huddersfield game - yeah, maybe should have shown more intent in the first leg. Unlucky with the injuries in the second leg, especially the one to Fletcher which handed the momentum over to Huddersfield, but the previous year we were the benefactors of Brighton's injury problems so it's swings and roundabouts I suppose Against Hull, we played them away a couple of months earlier and drew 0-0. A creditable result on paper that didn't tell the entire story of the game - a game in which Wednesday set up 4-4-2 with Forestieri/Hooper and created absolutely nothing. Hull's 5-man midfield dominated the game and Wednesday couldn't play through it at all. The front two were unable to challenge for any long balls, and as a result we had hardly any possession in their final third. Defended pretty well, but most of the game was played in Wednesday's half and despite a decent draw we never looked like scoring. Cut to Wembley - I remember worrying that if we set up the same way again, Hull's 5 man midfield would dominate. Surely Carlos would review the previous encounter and adjust tactically? Then when I saw the lineups my heart sank. Same team as before, and as expected the game followed the same pattern as the 0-0 draw, only Wednesday's defence was a little shakier this time around. Same problems - unable to play through the middle third, strikers unable to complete for direct balls, hardly any possesion in Hull's third. With the scoreline 0-0 at halftime despite being second best, surely Carlos must see that we're being outplayed and make changes? But no. We persist with the same system, and Hull continue to dominate. A good manager would have altered the system to try and counter Hull, especially after we'd been outplayed for the first 45 minutes. But Carlos did nothing and just let us meekly slide to defeat. It's not like we didn't have a variety of options on the bench either. It was just proper rabbit-in-the-headlights management. Hull were a decent side with some good players no doubt, but they were hardly bloody Man City.
  14. Yeah, I agree with frastheowl. If Dawson or Wildsmith has been responsible for the 2nd and 3rd goals there’d be a 10 page thread hounding them out of the club. Penney is coming in for a lot of criticism and while he wasn’t great, he was really no worse than any of the rest of the midfield. Did well in the build up for the goal, and the fact our left flank just collapsed after his withdrawal in the second half suggests he was doing something right.
  15. Not played well as a team, but Westwood really should have done better for the 2nd and 3rd goals.
