Popular Post pussface Posted August 27 Popular Post Posted August 27 How when our previous idiot chairman sold a £15m stadium to himself for £60m allegedly for 'accountancy reasons wink wink), we ended up with points deductions, relegation and (further down the line) further punishments and a near existential crisis. Yet Premier League clubs can buy and sell £20m players for £50m to each other (or even worse, sister clubs in foreign Leagues) to balance the books/circumvent psr, and this is apparently all fine and legit... Welcome to modern football... I hate it. 47
onslow Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Modern sport is cooked NFL owners have approved the $9.612bn record sale of the reigning Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks to a group led by billionaire Vinod Khosla. 1
AwokenGiant Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Part of the problem, is the Prem League and EFL are different entities. Because of this we don't even have grounds to appeal based on the likes of Chelsea. etc. 1 3
JohnnyQuinnsQuiff Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I wish we had £20m players that someone would buy for £50m. Not sure what your point is. If you hate modern football, you could always do something else? 1

Normanski Posted August 27 Posted August 27 a player is worth what the other club is willing to pay. Not a fan of owners having a stable of clubs mind, nearly always ends up being a conflict of interest somewhere down the line. 2

If a club has breached regulations (and they know that they have) and have been handed a punishment that is correct, then there is definitely no point in appealing. If they feel that they have been dealt harshly, then they should appeal. As is their right. These punishments are advised by an Independent Committee, not by the PL or the EFL. As are the appeals. 1
WimJunk Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) Every club's fans think they are hard done to, which is also part of the problem. Edited August 27 by WimJunk 2 3
danblakemore Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Thing is, money probably never changes hands.. it’s like a giant game of monopoly. 1
swfcnathan Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Think the worst one ive seen is a club buying two players fropm the same club. One way cheaper than their actual value and one way more than their actual value to get around having to pay their previous club a fee based on the profit they made on a player. Me and you can see it but yet theres absolutely nothing wrong with it apparently. 2 1 2
onslow Posted August 27 Posted August 27 We’re just not very good at selling playera Except Dalian Atkinson, bought for £400k, sold for £1.7m a year later, in 1989 !! HUGE profit! 1

areNOTwhatTHEYseem Posted August 27 Posted August 27 It all seems shady as hell, but we got the points deduction because Chansiri f*cked up the stadium sale and tried to backdate it so it was included in the previous year's accounts. As per usual, other clubs were simply much better at getting around the rules than us. 1 6

I'd argue not even all of them. While Villa indeed have wasted money, even them, Newcastle and a couple of others are pillaged by the "big 6" year on year. The idea of a super league was scrapped, but we pretty much have one in the premier league anyway. The entire system throughout the PL and EFL is basically set up to benefit a handful of teams. 1 1 6
