Lime Tree Heros Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I've never been to Middlewood Road, so haven't experienced our facilities first hand, but the reports on here aren't good and the Google maps snapshot isn't pretty. Today my local non-league's Team's women had a cup final at Watford's training ground. Wow, very impressive, easy to get to (just off the M25) next to Arsenal's training ground - a reception and offices, huge academy, gym, media centre, other buildings, a (shock, horror) inflated dome and just the 26 pitches to choose from... All immaculately maintained. Depressing to see how far behind we've fallen. 3 2
Popular Post Salmonbones Posted May 10 Popular Post Posted May 10 It's depressing how people are really wanting to state the obvious to put our club down. Yes of course Middlewood road isn't the best. We all know it, but it seems like everyone wants to just have a pop right now. Almost like there is an agenda. 39 7

The dude has literally spoken about his experience TODAY and included a picture HE TOOK If you want to make this claim this really is the wrong thread to do it in 2 1 9
Salmonbones Posted May 10 Posted May 10 What dude, what has "literally" just been spoken about today? Which photo? 5

If you've taken 'the reports on here aren't good' and 'the Google maps snapshot isn't pretty' as criticism, so be it. I don't work in football so don't get to see club's training facilities, today was the first training ground I've been to. I didn't know what to expect, but Watford's set up was very impressive and I know that despite it all they still finished below us. Sometimes a picture (or photo) is worth a thousand words to illustrate how our rivals go about providing training for their teams. 3 1
trumbullowl Posted May 10 Posted May 10 They share it with University College London, it's their sports facilities. 1

catdog1121 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I think in 2005 Bloor homes put in an application for 250 houses on the site, this was withdrawn in 2006.. Is there not new housing been built recently right next door and with this governments push for more housing, maybe it is time to look at trying to sell the land for housing if possible.. The income from this could be £10-£15M which would go a long way to cover some of the costs but would still need significant investment but would surely be a massive asset.. 1

I don't think we own the land. It was on a lease from the council. 2

It’s depressing how far behind we are… that is the point. 2
Maddogbob Posted May 10 Posted May 10 It's fallen behind the times and needs investment. Unfortunately the training ground isn't the only thing you can lay at the clubs door in that respect. 1

We have spent much of the last 25 years in the 3rd tier and none in the top tier. Watford have premier league money in that time. Makes a huge difference. What i did really depressing is 1993..we we're absolutely on a par with arsenal, cup finals, etc. The trajectories since then are crazily different 1
