Popular Post Lord Snooty
"What are you doing here?" "It's time for the matchday thread, Sir" "What, again!" "Yes, Sir" "But we only played at the weekend." "Well, it's not unusual to have a midweek fixture." "I don't want a midweek fixture. I don't want any fixture. The wheels are coming off" "Don't be so pessimistic ,Sir." "Why not, there's nothing positive to shout about!" "I have good news though." "Oh, oh, what's that?" "I thought that would get your attention Sir." "Well spit it out man!" "The good news is... that Wigan are currently topping the table and have won their last 5 league games ,Sir" "Are you taking the Michael!" "I don't know what you mean, Sir" "Top of the table, high flying, unbeaten...you know I'm in the malady. It's a bit rummy, Stubbs, to mock the afflicted, I have to say. A bit rummy" "But Sir, only last week you said that Wednesday always lose when they play teams near the bottom end of the table. That you come unstuck against small teams. And teams on a terrible run of form. I just thought that that being the case you'd be thrilled about table topping, goal-scoring, unbeaten in 7 Wigan and the increased chances of a win" "No! We lose to the top sides! In fact our failure to beat the decent outfits is what probably cost us automatic the other year when Carlos was here." "So, let me gets this straight. You can't beat the big clubs, the form clubs and the high in the table teams. And you can't beat the tiny clubs, table-propers and teams in wretched form?" "Yes. That's about the strength of it" "It begs the question why you bother at all" "Because it's the Wednesday, Stubbs. It's the Wednesday!" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WIGAN V WEDNESDAY ----- WIGAN ----- Wigan still have Thelo Aasgaard - who sustained a knee injury playing for the Under-23s last week - on the sidelines, while goalkeeper Jamie Jones is also out with a hand problem so back-up stopper Sam Tickle covers for him on the bench. Otherwise, the home side should have their main men fit and ready for Tuesday, with a similar XI to Saturday's likely to be named, though Jordan Jones is pushing for a place on the wing and is a contender to start opposite veteran winger James McClean. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- WEDNESDAY ----- Though Lee Gregory started on Saturday for Sheffield Wednesday, boss Darren Moore could have Saido Berahino, Florian Kamberi and Theo Corbeanu all available to challenge for his place up front this week. The latter pair have been unable to establish a regular spot in Moore's side since moving to South Yorkshire, while Berahino has been struggling with a calf problem. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FORM GUIDE WIGAN WEDNESDAY ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19 2 7
offalyowl
Classic 1 as always snoots, yeah the thing about been an owl lately, can never be confident if and when we are going to win or lose, be happy with a draw here but we could sneak a win hopefully, uto
Morepork
Once again, I can set the result aside to a point. Show us some tactical progression, some cohesion, some mentality and a little bit of competence. Not an anti Bannan sentiment by any means but I'm interested to see our midfield without him in it if not fit. Orlando_Trustful
Worried about this one. We never seem to do well away midweek. I think Wigan could really lay down a marker and put our fragile squad to the sword. They would be 10 points above us and it is not even October . nevthelodgemoorowl
Paul Bradshaw; John Sissons; Brian Usher; Eric potts; Terry Curran; Carl Shutt . All and more had a bit of a spark about them one or two developed the ability to go down the middle with some success. We have now got a sittuation that we have more wingers than we have ever had in a single squad. Please Darren let us take the leash off one or two of these guys and see what they have got regarding flying past their full backs. Let us at least get a few fans on the edge of their seats who knows we might uncover a super star along the way. At least one or two of them could find the formula of flying wingers or distance strikers. Set them free and they may produce. I have suggested to Lord Snoots other than MOTM that we credit a player also with a BOS Bums Off Seats award for the front line player/winger who can light up our match !
Manwë
Can't see anything other than a 2-0 Wednesday victory. This is the moment when we finally turn the corner and go on a seven match winning run. 1
FinnishOwl
Time to show Moore if we have the spark without Bannan. It's also good to see how the dead ball situations work. Other than that, I'm not too eager for this fixture, Wigan is a tough place and a point would be good.
mcmigo
Classic we take a point and move on match against a good team who especially have looked decent down the sides when they attack. Full backs will need to be on it tonight. i would take a nil nil

Willie Henderson
Can't say I'm looking forward to this one, a real bum clencher of a test, and they have Mr Tickle for a goalkeeper, surely that's not allowed? 0-2 to Wednesday more in hope than expectation. Because it's the Wednesday!
Southie_Owl
Talking of wheels coming off I think tonight the whole chassis will detach and we’ll be hoping the breakdown recovery driver arrives quickly as we stand in the rain feeling sorry for ourselves. 3-0 to Wigan. WalthamOwl
Moore needs to change something because what he is doing at the minute really isn’t working, some shocking results and awful performances. We have a much better squad than results/performances we are getting. Come on Wednesday! Going to have to play a hell of a lot better than we have to get anything tonight. Ozymandias
We’ll have a lot of possession in areas that won’t hurt them then roll over and get our belly tickled.
sternlad
Hope they don’t try and park the bus tonight and have a go for a change. If you take away the goalkeeping errors, inability to use the dead ball, poor finishing and poor crossing from the flanks we’re a good team. A draw would be a good result, a win fantastic as at least Mr Moore would have to say something different afterwards. Come on you blue and white, pink shirted wiiizzzzaaaards! Let’s be ‘avin’ these people who have a pier but no seaside?
striker
Looks a tough game considering the form and league tables, but on paper not so much. Wednesday have a knack of ending other teams bad runs, tonight maybe we can end another teams good run. Too many changes recently to develop any consistency, would like to see us put out a settled starting 11, to show some understanding between players on the pitch. Need to cut out the silly errors at the back and start to show something going forward, where we are still very poor and clueless at times. 0-1 Wednesday (more in hope than expectation)
