  1. Apparently Sky TV have asked a number of clubs how they could stop the “Sky TV is fuck1ng poo " chant during televised games. Feedback was Sky were essentially told to stop being fuck1ng poo with moving the fixtures.
  2. I really like them all. If I had to choose one, it would be the 1984 to 1995 badge. Technically we had another shirt and shorts badge on the Puma 1995-97 home kit. The SWFC text logo in yellow..... But I've said it before, no reason we can't use more than one badge on the shirt. One on the left chest, one on the back of the neck, one in the shadow pattern of the shirt material.....
  3. First was Bob Bolder, I almost bumped into him at the back of the South stand before or after a game. He was tall. Graham Pugh, then retired, used to run a pub round the corner. Nice enough bloke, he didn't mind a 16 year old spotty me always chatting to his wife. I met Waddle (and a few other players) in a take away in Dublin about 3am one morning in 1995. I was there for a stag do. Waddle was playing in Steve Staunton's testimonial later that day. He was a good laugh and chatted away with us for ages.
  4. That's a match worn shirt, not a replica. Embroidered Owl badge and Sanderson logo not outlined. Yes we did wear it away at Newcastle Sept 1993. We really should have won that night, we outplayed them. See attached for our kits that season. https://museumofjerseys.com/2018/07/22/season-in-kits-sheffield-wednesday-1993-94/ I thought it was ok, style of it's early 90s era. Better than a lot around at the time.
  5. 1973 v Cheslea at home in the cup. We wore plain white shirts, blue shorts and white socks. Chelsea wore their away kit of that time, red shirts, white shorts and green socks. Yes, terrible. There was an FA rule around that time that if there was a kit clash both teams changed. It wasn't strictly enforced as sometimes the away kits clashed as well.
  6. If it is the conditions at stadia, changing facilities, surroundings and especially the pitch are hugely more consistent than 30 plus years ago. And travel is much easier on the human body than it was a couple of decades ago. But apart from covid years, aren't the stats on home wins pretty much the same? Go back to the 1950s though and there were some good examples of home advantage. Two teams would play on Boxing Day, home team winning something like 5-1 and then the same two teams would play again the next day or so and the other team would often win by 4 or 5 goals! But that happened last May in the play off semi final didn't it? As far as Wednesday are concerned, I can no longer blame terrible away from on not having a yellow and blue away kit anymore.
  7. I think the West stand is actually the last new stand built at Hillsborough, it was after the North. Yes we levelled up and put a roof on the Eastbank in 1986 and 10 years later the South was extended. But we have not constructed a new stand at Hillsborough since the West stand was built in 1965. That's nearly 60 years. Every other football league club has built at least one new stand (or stadium) in the last 30 years. Except QPR, who last built a new stand in 1981. I don't think the West stand was a problem at the Newcastle FA cup game. The Newcastle fans were. This is them a week later at Southampton doing the same thing, blocking aisles. No journalists highlighted this, no national profile for this one. But as someone has said, it doesn't matter what happens elsewhere, we are always going to be criticised because the West stand is virtually the same structure as 1989. I believe it should be demolished, a new stand built, called something like The Hillsborough Stand to at least start to claim the name back, and make it the same scale as the rest of the ground. But that's all fairytales, we haven't got the near £100 million that would cost. And it doesn't look likely we will any time soon. In the meantime we have to accept and be understanding as these comments get raised time and again. Representatives of the Liverpool families, other fans, the public generally are justified in saying it needs demolishing and a new stand built. A lot of Wednesday fans agree. I just wish we could get the money or support to do it.
  8. In 53 years watching Wednesday......best left back we've had is Nigel Worthington.
  9. I couldn't have put it any better myself. Not the best or most successful team of my decades watching Wednesday, but that team gave everything, were brave, strong, skillful, made you proud and generated some wonderful memories. Wilkinson's first couple of seasons felt very special, he had leadership and ambition rarely seen before or since. And maybe if the 91 to 93 squad had been managed as professionally off the pitch, they might have actually won more.
  10. I'm not a fan of the modern, soulless concrete and plastic bowls. Of them all, I've found Sunderland the least offensive. It's nearer the city centre than Roker Park was and they've included bits of architectural style from the stands at Roker too. Of the grounds I've seen Wednesday play at, you forget how small scale Elland Rd is until you get inside. And the Manor Ground Oxford was simply very bad. Though I did enjoy our cup win there in 1984. Favourite away ground watching Wednesday is Maine Rd, Man City. It had impressive scale, atmosphere, history and we tended to do ok there. Other grounds I enjoyed watching a match, Monaco and Olympic Stadium Munich. Sadly not seen Wednesday play there yet!
  11. I was a little puzzled at the line up with no Vaulks or Iorfa and Famewo in. But the tactics and game plan worked well in the first half, we more than matched them. We struggled when they scored the second and it looked a bit wobbly for a while like it could all go a bit Huddersfield away. But I thought we recovered well despite very limited quality to bring off the bench. No shame in that performance against a bigger and better squad backed by a lot more resources than we have. We didn't look like a bottom three side.
  12. Staggering isn't it? Imagine someone on the kop at a Sheffield derby in a half and half scarf. I used to watch Man City at the Ethihad occasionally 10 years ago. I went last season and probably won't go again unless we play there. It was horrible. New premier league style fans, loads of tourists taking selfies everywhere and people supporting Haaland and DeBruyne rather than the team. It's one of the reasons I'm really not that bothered if we don't get to the Premier League.
  13. Agree with this. I thought someone had posted Marwood in the wrong thread. He came from Div3, he performed in the top league consistently, bravely (see his first goal for us v Ipswich) and to a good standard. Scored a few goals as well. Not overrated in my mind at all.
  14. That's a genuine Umbro replica from 1990-92 as sold by the club shop. The condition looks really good - badge and umbro logo appear in good condition. Those shirts are rare and in demand. Worth well more than 10 times what you paid for it. https://www.classicfootballshirts.co.uk/other-uk-clubs/championship/sheffield-wednesday.html?product_list_order=price_desc&product_list_limit=60
  15. Interesting views on Des Walker. I'd never say he was over rated. But I agree his form for us didn't live up to his earlier career. Was that due to his lifestyle? Or the fact we signed him the year after the back pass rule came in? Up till then, he could use his pace to win a race for the ball and knock it back to the keeper who could pick it up. When that changed, I think it affected his game massively, it took a while for him to adapt. By the time he did he was past his peak. But he was still good and consistent for us. Windass - yes not consistent but for me he's a big game player. He turns up and performs when it matters in the big games. Newcastle in the cup and Barnsley at Wembley last season. For me, I was surprised it took three pages before anyone mentioned Chris Woods. Someone who for us I thought never ever turned up in the big games. His status, experience and profile, as well as being a record signing at the time, meant considerable expectation. He came no where near living up to that and was eventually dropped 2 years later.
  16. Apparently he always regretted leaving in 1983. He would have done a great job in Howard Wilkinson's team that got promoted as well.
  17. That style was also the first shirt I saw Wednesday play in (in 1971) and also my first football shirt. But I've always preferred the stripes and didn't really like the 2017/18 one, it seemed like Chansiri was doing anything to avoid a striped shirt at the time and it's got his name across the front. But I'm a kit traditionalist, If it weren't for P&S /FFP, I'd insist on no shirt sponsorship! And don't get me started on socks over knees, wearing away kits when there is no clash and keepers having different coloured shorts and socks. People like different styles, younger fans usually like modern designs, so as long as it's blue and white, I've learnt to live with it and enjoy hearing other views.
  18. I think I remember right......... a thread on photos at games about 3 years ago had a load of brilliant black and white photos from the home leg. I think they were taken from next to the goal at the kop end. I may have dreamt it......
  19. I love Carlton's passion but based on his performance at the Wednesday Legends at the Crucible last October, he's not someone I would rely on a for getting a basic message across by public speaking. I think yellow is the right colour, the leaflets work, images and messages projected onto buildings/stadium cheap and very effective. Please leave the badge issue alone, too a high a risk of alienating some fans. We need to be together in this. Keep the messages simple and open to broad support.
  20. This is exactly what I wanted to say. Glad so many of us think alike. This forum is run by someone who can teach the club's PR team a thing or two.
