So according to transfermarkt, out of contract 2019 are:

    Abdi

    Westwood

    Jones

    Pudil

    Hooper

    Boyd

    Lee

    Matias

    Palmer

    Nielsen

    Preston

    O'Grady

    Out of contract 2020 are:

    Fletcher

    Hutchinson

    Forestieri

    Nuhiu

    Winnall

    Pelupessy

    Fox

    Dawson

    Stobbs

    Penney

    Baker

    Kirby

2019: I'd offer a contract to Westwood and Palmer and release the rest.

2020: I'd transfer list all of them and see what offers come in. Offer contracts to Forestieri and Winnall if they perform well.

Who are on longer contracts than 2020 ?

Not seen enough of the youngsters so cannot comment on them. Agree with most of the senior players on your list apart from Matias, would definitely release him. I see you've not mentioned your favourite player, Jordan Rhodes.

Bloody hell forgot about Rhodes !!!! GOOD SPOT.

My opinion would be to offload him on a permanent deal if possible but if we can get another loan deal similar to this seasons then that would suffice.

My own target would be Conor Wickham on loan.

Palmer never has been and never will be good enough.

Yet his "replacement" Hasn't had a minute on the pitch because of his brilliance.

All Bruce is seeing at the moment is a very good right back or he would have given Iorfa a go. Nothing to do with the past or how long he has been here.

With Matias,  personally I don't mind if he stays. Does offer something different. But I think his wage is a lot more than most think and his omission from every match day squad under Bruce so far is telling to how he sees this player.

If that's case with Matias I cant argue with him being released.

And I do see your point with Palmer I really do. But if we are genuinely making a go at going up next year (not saying we are) you cant be happy with Palmer being our RB ??

His replacement I haven't seen a lot of but I will be honest what I have I have not been impressed with. However, I am reserving judgement until he has had a chance and hope to be proved wrong.

Matias? Based on what? Pretty much agree other than this.

Matias, he has been a bad signing. Cant disagree. However, he is now fit and to be honest I have seen enough to think he can make a difference for us. With FFP in mind are we going to be able to get better for the money he is on ? I don't think so. Is it a risk yes ! But its one I would take for another year... SHOULD he stay fit for the rest of the season that is.

So you would release Palmer who have probably been our best player over the last month or so. But keep Matias.

Personally I think Abdi and Matias are the two players he has already made his mind up are gone.

Yes I would and my reasoning behind this is, Palmer has been one of our better players recently but he's been here a long time and he has never and will never be good enough. We need better and I think (may be wrong) we have brought it in with Iorfa. With FFP, we have Baker (who I would send out on loan next year, but as we don't loan players wont be) as back up so there is no need to offer palmer a new deal.

Matias, he has been a bad signing. Cant disagree. However, he is now fit and to be honest I have seen enough to think he can make a difference for us. Again with FFP in mind are we going to be able to get better for the money he is on ? I don't think so. Is it a risk yes ! But its one I would take for another year... SHOULD he stay fit for the rest of the season that is.

  6. Ill go with (looking through the squad number list):

Keep - Bannan, Thorniley, Lees, Joao, Reach, Hutchinson, Baker, Dawson, Iorfa, Wildsmith, Hunt, Kirby, Rice, Lee, Penney, Shaw, Forestieri

Transfer List - van Aken, Fox, Pelupessy, Fletcher, Winnall, Nuhiu, Stobbs

    Offer Contract - Westwood, Matias

Release - Palmer, Jones, Lee, Hooper, Boyd, Abdi, O'Grady, Neilson, Pudil, Preston,

On top of this I would do anything to sign Hector up.

Lee and Hooper I would love to still ne here but cant see them getting back to what they were after being out for so long.

  7. So as we are all aware there is a big job for Bruce to do with this squad in the summer. Just wondering what the general consensus was as to who should stay or go.

So basically you are in Bruce's shoes, the choices are for the out of contract players, Offer Contract or Release. And for the under contract players Keep or Transfer List.

    Who goes where ???

Agree. Of course, I'd take it but like I said yesterday it would just continue to mask our underlying issues, many of which I believe to be mental. Consistency, general mental frailty, no sacrificial mindest, never say die attitude, lack of leadership.....etc, etc. Then there are the technical shortcomings along with the squad imbalance.

It's a big job and one that will only be fully addressed with a very honest assessment.  This includes being able to see through those players that flatter to deceive.

This is by far the best post ive seen on here this season. Especially the end part. As good as some of our players are (Bannan & Reach spring to mind) they flatter to deceive and in Bannan's case are very good at masking it !!!

Keep it simple and play to strengths.

Play him on left running the whole flank slightly narrow to help cm's with lazaar more a lwb and overlapping.

Play aarons on right a bit higher and wider to balance midfield, with palmer more a fb.

Between them they will get some much needed crosses in for joao/ff/fletch and we might finally start to score some .

    Simple lol

Shush talking sense on here wont get you far!

Absolutely pathetic game of football last night. Looked like a national league game. Not a moment of quality n 90 mins.

    Bannan has to play centrally

Fessi has to, and can only play wide.

Cant really justify Boyd coming on.

We’ve got to get these 2 full backs in. Both Palmer and fOx done OK, but no room for sentimentality. We need points asap, and to do so we need more going forward.

Have to agree with the bold part

To be fair, he performed well out there in many games of Carlos' first season - but we had Lee alongside Hutch instead of Pelepussy galore.

Agree, I actually think he's better out wide than central but for that to happen he needs an attacking left back behind him (which Fox isn't) and we need someone to play in CM with Hutch who can actually play (Lee ideally, Onomah could if fit and who is this Abdi I hear is on our books) not Pelupessy.

Bannan cant dictate if we don't have the ball. We didn't have the ball in the first half last night so he was poor and would have been as bad in CM as LM.

I’d probably pick the below team on Saturday. So just Aarons coming in of the new lads.

                  Westwood

    Palmer   Hector  Thorniley  Fox

    Aarons    Hutch. Bannan  Reach

               Fletcher   Forestieri

Id go similar but 2 key changes:

            Westwood

    Palmer   Hector  Thorniley  Laazar

    Aarons    Hutch. Bannan  Reach

               Joao   Forestieri

Reason being we cant go long with those two up top, we will have to play through the midfield and get runners to help them, so time for Reach and Bannan to steop up (which they need too) and a chance for Aarons to make his mark.

Fox has played well but integrating the new left back into a good defence is a good move, as he will have organisation at the back and hopefully have something extra going forward.

You can’t drop Fox on recent form.

You can. He is defending well and part of a very good defensive unit so in that respect I get where your coming from....

But, were not going up or down and were planning for next season. Were not scoring goals and have very little attacking threat. We have a new left back who has played at international level and can also play Left Midfield. Integrating him into a good defensive unit is the way to go as if we can sign him up he will be our left back going forward.

Fox has done well, but ultimately if were starting with Fox next year were gonna be no better than this.

  14. He's a good footballer.

He is however not good in front of goal and I do think we play worse football when he is in the team.

For me Joao and Forestieri up top, we cant go long then and will have to play through the midfield. Which means Bannan and Reach need to step up and hopefully Aarons/Matias aswell.

Fletcher is on the downward curve, he works hard but if we can get him out would be a big plus.

  15. Westwood 8

    Palmer 6

    Hector 8 - MOM

    Thorniley 8

    Fox 6

    Reach 5

    Hutchinson 7

    Pelupessy 4

    Bannan 5

    Fletcher 5

    Joao 6

    Boyd 6

    Forestieri 7

The diamond of Westwood Hector Thorniley and Hutchinson were again impressive against a tough well organised Millwall side with a good striker in Gregory.

Full backs were good defending but offer little going forward.

    Pelupessy was appalling.

The attacking players although better second half were poor, Joao showed some nice touches but was lacking people around him to play with, Forestieri should have come on for Fletcher as he made a difference when he did but playing with Joao helps him.

Solid point but the lack of attacking is a worry.

To me from what Bruce said it sounds like the plan would be to move the academy somewhere else and leave the first team at middlewood.  I think this is a bad idea.  The academy should all be training in the same facilities. Man City consolidated all their levels, include all the women teams in the same site, Liverpool are also doing this too.

Whilst I agree and this should be the long term aim I got the impression that Steve was talking short term when he was asking about the academy looking at another site.

Eventually we will have to develop something somewhere else on a grand scale as we just don't have the room at Middlewood but with the size of the squad I think SB is thinking were gonna need all this room for the first team now.

  17. Id keep Forestieri Joao and Winnall. Let Hooper Nuhiu Fletcher Rhodes go and try and bring one in. My personal choice would be Wickham on a season long loan.

    Reasons:

    Out -

Hooper - too injury prone and on too much money. Undoubted class but we cant carry him in our current state.

Rhodes - never suited us, never wanted him and too much water under the bridge now. Money aswell he needs shifting if possible.

Nuhiu - I like the bloke and do think he offers something different but at the end of the day he isn't good enough.

Fletcher - Nice footballer but on a lot of money and doesn't score enough goals.

Adding to the above I am hoping Borakov who is a target man type player can step up and get involved a little so in the games where we could do with an areal presence we can use him.

    Keep/In -

Wickham - should have signed him last time. Class. Think with the situation at Palace and his history we would have a chance.

Forestieri - Best player at the club attacking wise and if fit is one of the best in the league. Can score us 15.

Joao - Has everything, added goals to his game and is getting more consistent. Main man from now on for me and is Forestieri's best partner.

Winnall - Poacher, knows where the net is and gets on the end of things, something different and needs a crack.

  18. Its all a bit up in the air at the moment.

Ideally player wise you'd look to have a strong spine in place and then build round it. Were looking better at the moment and will only improve when fitness gets better and Bruce gets his style across more.

    Westwood

    Hector Thorniley

    Hutchinson

    Forestieri

That's a decent start but if you look at next year Westwood Hector may not be here, and Forestieri may be sold. Gonna be hard.
