  1. Not sure what the set up should have been today, but sitting back and inviting pressure against a free scoring side? Our game has been the high press, Ipswich just dealt with it much better than most sides we've faced, and exploited our weaknesses on a very off day. That's credit to them, and also a reality check for us. I'd rather we have a go. This forum would have been full of people posting if we'd just sat back and accepted the inevitable. Not a pretty score by any means, but you don't tear up your approach from one really poor result, you work on the weaknesses to ensure it doesn't happen again.
  2. The problem is big clubs are run as businesses, everyone else is in it for the sport and love of the game which is a dying breed that will as it stands be eradicated. Clubs and fans that are often the lifeblood of local communities go down the pan together and everything goes to pot. We're as close to it as we've been in my lifetime of following Wednesday. The difference with our story being born from ineptitude.
  3. I thought the first half was our most complete performance of the season, we made Millwall look poor and we were a genuine threat with the quality we have up top. The front line all of a sudden looks like it can do something, and we have some decent options off the bench when the game gets stretched. Beadle acquitted himself really well for a young kid going into that environment. Back 4 looked assured, we moved the ball around well in midfield, and the counter threat with Musaba's pace and Poveda's willingness to take a player on looks there. I didn't think there was a 'stand out' performer in the team today, we played really well as a unit, snuffed out what little threat Millwall posed. Bernard MOM for me. One gripe.........Vaulks, why does he need to pick up unneccessary bookings in virtually every game? Be tough by all means, but not stupid. On another day he'd have seen a red - speaking of which, Fletcher will be in for a reyt rollocking, bit embarrassing for the lad that. Well played Wednesday! Beadle: 7 Palmer: 7 Ihiekwe: 7 Bernard: 8 Valentín: 6 Johnson: 6 Vaulks: 6 Bannan: 7 Poveda: 7 Musaba: 7 Ugbo: 7 Gassama: 6 Smith: 6 Bambo Diaby: 6 Fletcher: 3 Momo Diaby: 6
  4. Such a sad read. The only reason DC can surely be holding on to the club is to gamble on the slimmest of probabilities that he will get lucky one season, with promotion to the PL. To think of what we went through after dropping down from the PL and now this - it's mad. I cannot see DC selling as I'm convinced he believes he's the solution and wants to prove everyone they are wrong about him. Genuinely scary about how this could end up within the next 12 months with relegation and growing discontent amongst the fanbase.
  5. What did people genuinely expect to happen? Up until last weekend we were in touching distance of 4th from bottom owing to the upturn that we've had since DR took over. He needed to be backed in the window and wasn't, so this is literally an inherited group of players that were already bottom 3 material. DR cannot be judged on this season IMO, the chairman should also know this and be giving him the tools to do the job he came for in the summer. FWIW - I don't actually think he will be given the summer as he probably already realises he's been sold a pup. So we'll be back at square one with half a squad entering League One and on the lookout for a new manager that will likely have seen the back end of a season where DC has been slated from the stands, refusing to put up any kind of 'competitive' budget. The buzz around the place when DR took the reigns was really positive, semblance of a structure and some of the games have been good to watch. I hope he can continue past the end of the season, but part of me thinks he might already want out.
  6. Remember when............... We had the 150th anniversary event, and everone collectively felt it was pretty embarrassing. Then we all collectively laughed at the giant cake which has since become an Owlstalk legend in it's own right.
  7. Outside of 20 years but............... Big Ron's return to Hillsborough after ditching us for Villa. Judas, Judas, Judas!
  8. For breakfast, I have fish, rice cake, fish. For lunch I have rice cake, fish, rice cake and fish.
  9. So in a nutshell............... The negative fans will get what they want (relegastion to L2), and the positive fans will have to pay for the privilege of saving the club even though they are not backing the negative fans? His next line is surely that his email was hacked.
  10. Yeah been busy with the move abroad mate. Plus, more life is more positive without thinking about us atm. The issue always being I can't stop thinking about it. At least the only way is up, just not sure at this point if we're going to see an 'up'. Madness.
  11. Absolutelty astounding that the guy still hasn't learnt a single lesson about running a football club or a business for that matter. It's beyond embarrassing now.
  12. All jokes aside.......... Horrendous injury for Basham today for them, hope he makes a full recovery but looks very much like a career ender, poor lad.
  13. At least there's one silver lining, he's not giving any more cash to Paxiao to urinate up the wall!
  14. I personally have never said a single word on my valuation of Sheffield Wednesday or how much I would want to sell Sheffield Wednesday for, because I have never considered selling. This is not correct. It is simple, if you want to buy the club, show me the proof of funds and submit an offer in the professional way. If anyone wants to buy the club, they should act professionally and follow the correct process. erm...................... So what self respecting businessperson would show funds when there's no mention of how much would be needed? Professional? For a side that's bottom of the league, needing confidence instilling - he's done wonders by telling everyone no more extra cash will go in!
  15. We should have a gammon's corner for all the booers. Stick em int Crow's Nest.
  16. Both keepers could have taken the MOM award, I'll go with Dawson. I felt we fielded the right side, but just played in patches, also kept them at bay relatively well with that high press they have. Barnsley will do well again next season. Delighted today, what a feeling!
  17. "Sheffield Wednesday, we're coming for you" At the end of their play off v Bolton
  18. Sat in the home end with a few Ipswich mates today, last time watching us until I don't know when, before we leave the country in a couple of weeks. What a treat eh? Haven't a clue what happened for the penalty, felt like a bit of a stunner when it was awarded. Mate said it would be missed as they don't have a designated take and so it proved. I felt we were good for the 2 goal lead, we grabbed the game when they were very poor during that 30 minute spell, if Smith had controlled the ball better and got the 3rd I don't think we'd have given them a route back. Bizarrely, seemed a reverse of the game at our place, ref got the crowd up and that gave them something. I called a good foul by Iorfa to bring the lad down for the freekick that led to them scoring, also called Dawson given too much room to his right to allow it in - made a point of shutting up thereafter. That was the turning point - if we'd gone in 2-0, it was a chorus of boos however that got the crowd back and deservedly equalised, we offered so little that 2nd half which was more credit to the Ipswich midfield challenging, still feel we have the better quality to keep the top 2 spot though. A good point in the end. Few very good performances, but stand out for me was Flint, backed their players off with his dominance. Bannan was snuffed out completely 2nd half, Iorfa was solid, Byers & Vaulks also. Only slight criticism was not changing it when we were struggling for legs in midfield, Bannan shouldn't have completed the 90 for me as the pace of the game tired him. We are in good shape! Another unbeaten, win the game in hand and we sit pretty.
  19. I think that ref would've played til Sunday to give them a chance. Blackpool are a team of misfits, pigs have Coventry up next and I will bet they'll be on Hecky's back big time if they fail to pick up all 3.
  20. I watche the 2nd half, lad I work with is a Blackpool fan and we started getting ineterested when they got it back to 2-2. Referee lost control of the game completely, Blackpool broke on a couple of occasions and could have put it to bed only for the pigs to commit a cynical foul, and escape with a booking. 1st sending off, probably fair given he was on a yellow, 2nd was an argument for a player from either side, but the penalty was a joke of a decision - almost a par with Gordon Watson's v Leeds. Never seen a penalty miss go out for a throw mind - well done Brewster The final insult of both 8 mins injury time (dreamt up) and the foul on the keeper for the equaliser, completely lost it the ref. They are shithouses of the finest order!
  21. I genuinely don't trust his kicking. It's bizarre, when you look at how he can clear to the wrong side of the pitch which he did on at least 3 occasions and gave Plymouth a chance to run at us. The defeat wasn't particularly on him, but as a long term number one I'm really not sure. Not helped by conceding a poor first goal tonight, the ease they got through so early in the game was a concern, after we've looked better against Port Vale.
  22. Bannan got my vote, think he's hitting the form of his career tbh. Need to organise ourselves better after making subs, not spend 10 minutes working out who's supposed to be doing what. Credit to Plymouth, they're a good side that play in bursts and make the most of their chances. We should have been out of sight with how many we missed, hope the momentum carries with the performance of the first 73 minutes moving forwards. Annoying that we've now got the gap between ourselves and the top 2. I was thinking after Saturday, 23 points from 11 is a good return - when you look at the same from 12 it looks a bit insipid - but maybe that's because Plymouth and Ipswich are setting a good pace. Frustrating result and last 17 minutes of play from us. Saturday was a game we would have drawn last season, we should be saying the same about that tonight.
  23. Ipswich made 3 changes tonight that won them the game from 0-0. We need to get better at making these changes at key times in games, and make the right choices as to who we bring off. I didn't understand the thought behind them myself - see the game out if the team are playing well and creating chances. Not going to mention the misses as it shouldn't enter the thought process. Plymouth waited for us to lose the monmentum, and intelligently took advantage of us whilst we were still scratching our backsides working out how we were supposed to be set up, credit to them, but we need to be better at these times.
