  1. I get all my information on the Academy teams form Malek on here and I just wondered if he or anyone else knows anything about Onukwuli and Fernandes as they seem to score a few goals?
  2. This is a bit harsh in my view. We all know that he is really a decent League One Centre Forward but the Championship is one step beyond But I think he has worked really hard when coming on at the end for 15-20 minutes. He is a really good defender and lest anyone forgets he is a great penalty taker. If we ever get a Pen he is that man to take if if on the pitch at the time.
  3. I agree with the OP re Michael Smith. The one thing I would add is that he is a top defender at set pieces possibly even better at getting the ball away than our Centre Backs. This is probably why DR brings him on late if we are winning. Lee Gregory is a better footballer IMO but is a complete liability defending in our box.
  4. It is a huge irony that things clicked for Darren Moore when he switch to 5 at the back and now following half time at Leicester City the same has happened for DR. Five at the back sounds negative but is far from it when you have two wing backs like Pol Valentin and Marvin Johnson. It so suits us as we have two genuinely attacking wingbacks. Iorfa also joined in from Right Centre Back.
  5. I too prefer Byers. I know it is a tougher league but I just do not understand why he became a lesser player this season. A poor Pre-season following the injury towards the end of last season maybe. I suspect we may well need to call on Hendrick so why not get him up-to-speed now. He might just get us another key equaliser.
  6. We have the chance of possible survival and we must do everything we can to help secure that goal. Being steeet wise in this league is so important. I do note that DR has given Shipston very little if any opportunity so I will trust his judgement.
  7. I have to say I disagree with 1952Owl. Hendrick has played 400 league games and has 70 international caps which means he may no longer be the quickest but he is street wise. No one was complaining about Hendrick when he scored the last minute equaliser against the then all-conquering Leaicester City.
  8. No, Jeff Hendrick will not be match fit. Was his last game in November last year maybe? That is why I suggest we register him now and give him some sub minutes so if the worst happens to BB or Vaulks in the last 8 games we have a plan B.
  9. The issue is not whether BB is fit for this Friday's game. The issue is the 8 games between 29th March and the 4th May 2024. It would be great if Bannan ad Vaulks can sail through those unscathed but you have to prepare for the worst outcome.
  10. It may be controversial but I do believe the time has now come to register Jeff Hendrick. He has played over 400 league games, has 70 Republic of Ireland international caps yet is only just 32. Although the injury to BB is hopefully nothing serious it was pretty clear last night that M Diaby is not the answer in midfield. If we still had George Byers we would have some cover but we do not and the free agent market looks bare. Eight league games to come between 29th March and the 4th May 2024 so it is time to register Hendrick asap and get him up-to-speed.
  11. Possibly a little harsh as when we failed in the Play Off Final Carlos made it clear that he wanted us to buy Morrison, the Cardiff centre half and captain. Eventtually Morrison said he had decided to stay at Cardiff and went on to captain them to the Premier League. I do doubt if Carlos had ever heard of Van Aaken let alone see him play. I personally blame Chansiri and Paxo for the recruitment that summer - not only Van Aaken but Abdi and as we all know Stuffing Man had plenty of contacts at Watford.
  12. I do like to know what is happening to our younger teams. So thank you Malek for all the information we get.
  13. We are miising that front man with presence to hold the ball up and critically score a few goals. Lucas Joao might just get us the 4/5 goals that keep us up. His goals often come in bursts.
  14. I think Dany C could do with some rest. He is only 18 and it might be better if he was coming off the bench. Now is the time for the return of Luca Joao. Lucas with up top with Ugo, Gassama and Paveda is support would be a threat to many teams.
  15. In the last two games the midfield has at times looked overrun but I thought the Torp goal for Coventry in the home Cup game was instructive. It was a decent shot but just look at the room and time he had to shoot from a central position outside our box. The only time that 2 in midfield has worked for us imo was in seasons 1983-86 under Wilko when Megson and Shelton were quite magnificent. Abandoning 2 in midfield is not a criticism of Bannan who still looks a good Championship midfielder to me. But Carlos realised in a very short space of time that Bannan was better off at left midfield with Hutchinson and Lee more central. Personally I have not given up on Diaby but he clearly needs to move the ball on more quickly. Perhaps alongside Vaulks and Bannan he could come into his own?
  16. I have been wondering how long it will take the Manager and his coaching staff to realise that 2 in midfield is just not working for us. In the recent series of games we have either been under-manned or at times over-run in midfield. Ironically with the brain dead Owner Chansiri in charge we have a very poor quality squad but is is strangely quite well suited to 4-3-3. A midfield of Vaulks, Bannan and Diaby/Hendrick or even Palmer would give us more cover. You than can select Windass, Gassama or Musaba either side of Cadamateri or Ugbo.
  17. There was a blaze of hyperbole when Danny Röhl arrived but now a number of questions are being asked about his management of the team. I am still strongly supportive of Röhl in that we have a fraud and brain dead Owner in Chansiri but imo the manager needs to listen to some challenging voices around him . Older supporters will recall that in his first season as manager of SWFC Sgt Wilko won promotion to the Premier League. He played a two man midfield and Gary Megson and Gary Shelton were truly herculean that season. Other than that a two man midfield has never worked for us. Immediate changes that I would urge him to adopt are as folows: Get a settled defence ideally with the same Cente Back pairing (leave B Diaby out permanently) Play 3 in midfield - probably Bannan, Vaulks & M Diaby (perthaps Hendrick if needs must) Play 3 up front (leave Fletcher as a very occasional bench player) Consign Wilkes to the Under 21's As I said in my original post the first challenge is to become hard to beat.
  18. What summer recruitment drive is that? Do people not realise that Chansiri is totally skint - a pauper and a complete charlatan. Bringing LJ in now we could see if he would be up for a League One campaign.
  19. Lucas Joao has ability and can score goals unlike Fletcher. If we can get him back that would be great. He would immediately be our No 1 striker. What does that say!!!
  20. Yes, I have to say everything you say is totally logical. The only thing about football though is that it is not always logical. Owls fans were apolplectic about signing a 36 year old journeyman Centre Forward from Hartelpool on loan in 2013 but his goal in the final game of the season kept us in the Championship.
  21. The problem is that in our last match we started a Centre Forward who just cannot score goals. The question I would ask every Owlstalk poster is: Would you put your own money (£) on Fletcher scoring one or more goals for SWFC this season? The strange thing about Joao is that his goals often come in bursts. I emember him coming on for us at Ashton Gate in the second half one year. Within 15 minutes he scored two goals and turned the game around.
  22. I take a different view from most posters. I would say 2 words and the name in question would be Steve Howard. To much derision at the age of 36 Steve Howard was brought in from Hartlepool during our relegation campaign in 2013 and he famously scored in our final game of the season against Middlesborough to ensure our survival. I would get Lucas Joao in immediately because he might just get us a few goals we deperately need. Who knows Chansiri might even sanction it as he would see Lucas Joao as a long lost member of the family!
  23. Very interesting data. One factor that should perhaps be overlaid is the impact of refereeing decisions/errors. I do believe that we have been the victims of five dreadful decisions already this season: Hull away penalty - Gregory push?? Cardiff Away penalty - in added time and even on the playback it is nor clear so totally arbitrary decision?????????? Watford Away penalty award to us - overturned by the rabble of Watford players surrounding the referee?????? Bristol City Away - Bannan sending off with three quarters of the game still to go and rescinded on appeal?????? Stoke City penalty - bizarre decision but thankfully Dawson ensured justice was done?? That could have cost us 5 or 6 points which would make the league position more aligned to the data
  24. Just to say I think lan Harper has a good memory of that day at Dagenham & Redbridge. I too recall that Reynolds playing left back away at the "Daggers" attempted a clearance wide on the left. The ball looped up high and he nearly scored into our net from the left hand touchline. Unforgettable!
  25. I am not sure if this is the same for others but this shirt has never really caught my imagination. I think they need to be creative with the away shirt.
