I'm not sure people entirely understand the concept of the stop clock method. You literally stop the clock every time the ball is not in play. So you ensure you always get 60 minutes of football. Players can time waste all they want, and yes, it will break up play and you can still take the sting out of the game if one team is really pressing. From kick off to final whistle may still take 90 minutes, or even longer. but you ensure you still get 60 minutes of actual football.
