SheffWed Posted May 18 Posted May 18 While I don’t think there is an innocent party, DC is ultimately responsible, people can’t work for him or want to but I think Röhl has backed himself into a corner and it could backfire big time. IF Southampton really wanted him we’d have heard a lot more by now, they seem to have backed off. 1

Bizzle literally said he has no intention at the time and he didn’t go anywhere. All his moaning since has been aimed at the chairman for not doing anything he’s promised. Southampton in December would have been an awful career move for him. He’d have got relegated and now be out of a job today. He was never getting sacked here and he’s done a good job at exposing Chansiri again. I still think he wants to leave, but going at the end of the season is more sensible that mid season, especially going to a club who’s going to get relegated.

I think it is, yes. when you consider how everything played out in early January - the breakdown in comms, the Shea Charles debacle etc Röhl himself even saying that we got approached from the PL for manager and players So yes, I think it’s beyond obvious he wanted to go and get 6-months in the PL Equally, I can also appreciate that now they’ve been relegated he might feel differently about it and his clear choice is to leave SWFC vs leave SWFC to join Soton. But, all signs in January point towards a manager who wanted to join the PL club that come in for him

But, all signs in January point towards a manager who wanted to join the PL club that come in for him I agree there were approaches and Southampton got annoyed at Chansiri for not reducing the compensation. But I still don’t believe Danny wanted to leave at that point, for the reasons I said, he’d be out of a job within 5 months and his stock would now be lower than right now. Probably similar reasoning he doesn’t want the job now. They’re trying to sell the club and he doesn’t want to see his stock drop during a takeover of a big club. Exact same reason that I still wants to leave this summer as he’s either stuck with DC or a new owner comes in and wants to do their own thing straight away. Also, like last time, Southampton don’t want to pay the compensation
SiJ Posted May 18 Posted May 18 I think Danny wanted out but wasn't willing to walk out on the club like Russell Martin did with Swansea. Probably anticipated that Saints would comeback in the summer when, supposedly, the release fee goes down. Now someone else of a similar pedigree (arguably a bit higher) is now available and with no compensation to be paid. 1

I think at the time they were 9 points from safety with over half a season to go. Most chairman would expect whoever came in to save them if they wanted to keep their job. The Southampton job was a poision chalice in December. Taking the job now is a much better propersition as a Championship side then it was then
