Largely agree. It obviously does matter to a point, as we saw with Chancer but equally you can’t go full Jack Walker at Blackburn these days. As you say, a big part of the task is generating income and revenue. That said, there’s no limit to what can be spent on infrastructure, upgrades to grounds and facilities aren’t limited by the rules, and that’s where I’d like to see some financial muscle. I don’t think two billionaires are a problem per se, and it maybe speaks to the amount of capital invested required in infrastructure. It’s hardly an uncommon model in football and it’s probably better not to be one man’s toy. And also who even knows what ‘the project’ is? I mean if they’ve been looking around Sheffield maybe they envisage doing something bigger like Birmingham’s owners have. That would be the dream right? I mean I know SCC aren’t renowned for their vision but if I had a couple of billy goats sniffing around a football club in the city I’d be rolling out the red carpet and seeing what else they might want to do in the city as part of a rejuvenation of the football club. Can you imagine a ‘Wednesday Quarter’ with a new ground, entertainments, bars, restaurants, maybe a gig venue, transport links…..

Maybe it wasn’t written with you in mind personally? To be honest, with all the ITK BS we’ve had to deal with in recent months I very much welcome proper sources like the Star and Radio Sheff confirming what’s what. Just look at folk fretting about that nonsense Nixon was peddling in the week. Reliable sources are beyond valuable.

100%, it would definitely impact any transfer dealings. I don’t think the clubs likely to fatally run out of money though were this to roll into January.
-
Thats when the next cut of tv money drops, so I don’t think January is a particular deadline.
-
Obviously but as a buyer you don’t go through all of this and lodge a bid only to subsequently go, ‘nah, no thanks’. To have multiple bidders do so just isn’t remotely likely. But by all means have it your way if doom and gloom makes you happy. It’s all going to go wrong and we’ll be begging a Simon Jordan to come and take the club for pennies….
-
From what the admins have said they’ve already received multiple bids at the required level, with the date for confirming a preferred bidder being delayed because they are expecting further offers at that level. These are serious admins, running a serious process, for serious bidders who have been all over the books BEFORE offering for the club. If they weren’t serious about following through they wouldn’t be allowed a seat at the table.
-
What are you talking about? The Administrators literally aren’t allowed to accept a lower offer because a would-be buyer claims they would invest the money into the infrastructure. They are legally obliged to get the best deal for creditors, which whether you like it or not includes Chansiri. Besides you wouldn’t just screw Chansiri, you’d be screwing all the other unsecured creditors, which will include plenty of local small businesses. Jordan doesn’t give two sh1ts about the ethics of paying Chansiri. In his words he thought the club might be ‘nickable’, i.e. got on the cheap. Why would someone with that attitude be preferable to a buyer with proper funding. Honestly…….

The ‘right new owner’ isn’t under any circumstances one who can’t pay the asking price for the sodding club when there’s viable bidders that will. Nor is it someone who would deliberately endanger the club with playing in League 2 to save themselves a few quid. Both would be an immediate red flag. Honestly, some of our fans are mad. We finally get rid of the guy and get the chance to move forward, and you’d jeopardise that because he’s still living in some of your heads rent free…

What a weird take. The Hillsborough tragedy been all over the news this week, given another set of findings against SYP. It’s not like Betts has just raised the subject at random. As a prominent Wednesday supporting Sheffield MP he’ll have been asked about it. Do folk expect him to say ‘no comment’. I’m sure that would have gone down a storm in the press https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y9r863k4eo

I get the sentiment but I doubt £8m paid over four years, or whatever it was, would have touched the sides of building a new stand. Rhodes was bought 8 years ago, not 30. You’d think demolition and a new stand would be at least circa £20m. Keep in mind that Brighton and Brentford’s fairly modest 17-22K stadiums cost £70-90M. You’re looking at least 7-8K capacity for a new west stand. Also, isn’t the electricity substation for the ground under the west stand? That’s got to add cost and complexity. Like so many things that needed proper investment Chancer simply didn’t have the cash. This is going to be the big challenge for our new owners. The amount of spending needed on ground infrastructure alone is eye watering because literally nothing meaningful has been done to the ground for 35 years. I’m not massively keen on moving but it probably would be more cost effective to just start from scratch.

Time will tell I guess. He doesn’t look like that kind of player to me but it will come out in the wash.
-
Really? He played fine as a number ten yesterday. He likes to come deep and link things up. I’d think the last place he wants to be is battling with a big centre half.
-
Couldn’t put that better. Well said!

The admins were appointed because the club / Chansiri couldn’t pay its bills. Chansiri didn’t settle any bills before he left. Thats why we’re in administration. It’s the admins job to dispose of the club and its assets in a way that ensures that those owed money get the maximum possible amount of the money they’re owed back. In a situation like ours where the business is salvageable, they run the club as a going concern until it’s sold. It’s not a given that wages are paid or settled by a business in administration but with fans coming back and income coming into the club, the admins were able to pay the wage arrears. The Admins get paid by the buyer when the club is sold, they don’t make money from controlling the club.
-
No, because that’s not how admin works. He had zero involvement from the moment the Administrators took over. The club, under the control of the administrators, settled the player and staff wage arrears weeks ago. As to the wider point, how about we just let the experts get on with doing what needs to be done to secure the club’s future. Petty vindictiveness was his trait, not ours.

That was AFTER the fuss had taken place but no point in arguing about it. Have to agree to disagree on this one. Hopefully next time we’re in this position hardheadness will overrule sentimentality. We’re going down whatever but the fanbase and team badly needed and deserved a win. To chuck it away like that was just abject stupidity.

For me it’s not so much his finishing. As you say, he’s scored pretty consistently at most levels for a young player. What worries me is the seeming absence of growth in his wider game. When he first came in he was a proper kid and very lightweight, so it was totally understandable that he wasn’t winning headers, leading the line, etc. Two years on though he’s bulked up considerably but he’s still not showing any signs of being able to link play. He keeps getting caught under high balls and doesn’t seem to know how to ether play with his back to goal or run the channels. It’s something he’s going to have to figure out if he’s going to stick.
-
I don’t think, I know. I have eyes, I saw it. What do you think all that fuss with the ball was before it was taken? Pedersen even confirmed in his post match interview that there are three designated penalty takers, and that McNeil is not one of them. This is a professional football team. Unless we were numerous goals up, the designated taker should always be taking the pens. Judging from his comments I suspect Pedersen will be gently making that point this week.
-
I’d need to see him to it A LOT more regularly before we start talking about revelations but on today’s showing I’ll absolutely concede there’s at least some potential there if he can repeat today’s efforts more often. Whether he can remains to be seen but he at least showed a bit of something today. It’s one good outing against numerous poor ones but all power to his elbow. He’s set a standard now, go out and do it again. Possibly an odd comment after two goals but I’m not really sure he’s an out and out striker. His link play was probably his strongest point today.
-
For what it’s worth, I’d remembered it wrongly too until I looked it up.
-
He’s definitely more of a no.10 like Windass who links things up, rather than an out and out striker. What I did like today was that he was finally taking a touch and getting his head up. Needs to work on that body strength though.
-
McNeil played far, far better today and to be honest I was gearing up to come on here and eat a large portion of crow because I’ve been highly critical of him but today he finally showed something, not just the goals but in his general play. Unfortunately he then does the selfish thing taking the penalty off Bannan and really took the gloss of things. Still if he can repeat the wider performance he’s got a chance to contribute. I think I must be watching a different Cadamarteri to some of you. If Ugbo had turned in the performance he did today he’d have been getting absolute pelters.

SWFC V Preston North End, the Smith/Valentin Derby

Even by our current squad’s standards that is a seriously, seriously pants lineup.
